  • Will there be a new bingo game coming in 2021?

As they continue to invest heavily in NH racing, it was inevitable that Cheveley Park would suffer the same problem as other owners with regards to placing their army of horses.

Do they try and split them? Do they run multiple in the same race if that fits best? Do they let the trainers decide?

These questions will make life a bit tougher for ante post bets on Cheveley horses. I’ve compiled a list below that will likely to be going novice hurdling next season. This season they did not have the numbers to make it a problem for the punter but they could have potentially 6 high class recruits going novice hurdling next season, spread across three different trainers.

    Ballyadam - Gordon Elliott - 5yo - £330k - PtP - Bumper
    Sir Gerhard - Gordon Elliott - 5yo - £400k - PtP
    Ferny Hollow - Willie Mullins - 5yo - £300k - PtP - Bumper
    Deploy The Getaway - Willie Mullins - 5yo - £200k - PtP
    Gloire D’athon - Henry De Bromhead - 4yo - £200k - AQPS Flat
    Jeweller - Henry De Bromhead - 4yo - £ transfer - Flat OR 74 (Stoute)

Quite agree that this will start to give some headaches, but what headaches to have

You have to say the horses they have invested in so far have been of very high quality from such a small army, someone is doing very well in that respect.

I’m trying to remember if they ran many against each other on the flat but then there’s probably even more flat racing in Britain than jumps so even easier to split them up.

I wonder if they'd be tempted to go straight over fences with Ferny Hollow?!

I don’t think they will skip hurdle campaigns to go chasing. I do however think that the 5yo who did not run in bumpers this season will go over hurdles next season; either straight away or maybe after an early season bumper.

I suggested that after the bumper, would be non standard strategy but he looks built for fences to me

I remember a previous bumper winner going straight over fences. Missed That or Hairy Molly, can't remember which without looking.

I think the majority of their purchases will be built for fences but I think they’ll go down the tried and trusted route of hurdles campaigns. Ferny Hollow is not short of speed and I wouldn’t say he’s crying out for staying chases right now. Even Gigginstown, who almost exclusively buy chasers, use the hurdle campaign for added experience and time to fill out and strengthen up.

And hopefully the return of Malone Road.

Not sure how accurate it is but I read somewhere in Twitter he may not race again.

Love to see him back and make the headache bigger though.

On 8th April, one of Gordon's stable staff was still commenting that Mslone Rd is his favourite current horse n the yard. Admittedly not confirmation of his well being or whether he will race again but at least MR is still there....

                        Interesting.

Certainly implies he's still in training doesn't it!

Fingers crossed. I wouldn’t back him until I know he’s fit and well but it would be a shame to not see him again.

Ended up reading all those. Interested in particular on their views about working for Gordy and fair play that they appear to have published them unedited. Seems pretty consistent feedback in that he loses his temper a fair bit, doesn’t bear a grudge at all, looks after all the staff and properly celebrates the winners with everyone.

Not interested in either at the moment. Agree with Archie’s view on Ballyadam there just isn’t enough substance in that Bumper form for me to be interested him at the moment. While FH looks a more tantalising option his hurdling in that PTP was particularly poor. I tried to find the video footage again the other day but couldn’t find it. He has been with Willie a while since then so a chance he will have improved, but will definitely need to
