Interesting thinking on the Arkle Craigy.
Rouge Vif won a G2 novice hurdle and had a rating of 142, was given a chase rating of 157 and finished a country mile behind PTKO and FD, to me that says the front two are very decent as for me Rouge Vif is a reliable yardstick...

I do agree about the front 2, they did look good. I’m probably more crabbing the rest of the field which is maybe a slight injustice to the those 2. I don’t think the rest will do much, notebook possibly didn’t quite run his race but plenty around the circuits put him as the lay of the favs.

Fakir should definitely have improvement to come given his age as well. I will be keeping an eye on his target as the champ chase looks winnable on paper and he could step up.

Other than the front 2 I'd be willing to give Global Citizen another chance, practically brought to a standstill halfway round by Maire Banrigh falling. He managed to work his way back into it before tiring into 4th up the straight.

He was one I liked for Aintree, not sure Cheltenham will ever really see him at his best.

Definitely one for a flat track 2m valuable handicap next year.

I really like her and was gutted when she got injured this year. I just fear with Epatante in there and Pentland probably nowhere else to go Nicky may go to the mares with her. Benie will most likely go to the new mares chase and even Honeysuckle could go that way so looks a weak division.

I’m of the opinion that the first bet of the year should be the best horses or horses with certain targets.

                Al Boum Photo,
                Easysland,
                Shishkin,

Abacadabras (CH), Allaho (Ryanair) or Envoi (Marsh)

....I think Hobbs has already suggested Thyme Hill will be aimed at the Stayers. Plenty worst 20-1 shots to include.

Some may not agree with Shishkin in that catergory?

Al Boum Photo makes a lot of sense

                      Thyme Hill shout is decent.

I do like Thyme Hill for the Stayers but I’m already quite set on Paisley Park for the first month.

Thyme Hill for April sounds good though.

Not long left to decide lads. If you could choose your four based on this thread then, who would you go for. Not actual votes here but your ideal four please just as a pointer for me.

                            My four would be

                            Fury Road
                            Paisley Park
                            CPS
                            Minella Indo

If prices for the Mares Chase are to be believed, Salsaretta is the Ricci horse.

Personally, I wouldn't want Paisley Park at the price this far out. A horse that will go for the Stayers if fit is Sire Du Berlais and he will start much shorter than 20/1.

Easysland looks to have the XC at his mercy.

Benie Des Dieux would have won the Mares Hurdle if the jockeys had ridden to instructions.

                              Salsaretta
                              Sire Du Berlais
                              Easysland
                              Benie Des Dieux

There’s little doubt Sire du Berlais surprised connections this year so it is just possible the horse is still improving, but he’ll be 9 next March (which is no real barrier) but what puzzles me is why the horse has never been stepped up in grade before now.
Back to back Pertemps is some feat but if he were to go from handicaps to a championship that would surprise me...
