I have no doubt whatsoever that he's a future Champion trainer, and he's already off the mark with Cheltenham winners too - he's one of a select few that have any potential to become a major yard... I'd prefer a horse with him than the Tizzards already which may be an unpopular opinion!
Went to his yard about year ago......good set up and there is definitely a LOT of ambition there! Was just after Chelt 2019 when he had broken through with first G1.....He did not hide ambition when chatting to us. Good guy

I do have a big soft spot for Tizzards tho.....as was one of first yards i have visited and his wife baked us cakes specially.....really friendly stable

I’m absolutely with you on that.

Tizzard and Gary Moore. Both negatives for me when looking at top horses.

      • Didn’t know where to put this but currently listening to the betfair podcast with Kevin Blake and he says that Joseph O’Brien will be scaling back and having a lot less jumpers this season. Sad to see because I’ve liked him being involved in the jumps but I’d guess he won’t stick around too much longer before following the rest of the family into solely flat.

There have been a couple of interviews where he’s said the same. He’s actually got quite an army of bumper horses to go hurdling with this year but I think he’ll be exclusively a flat trainer within 5 years.

          • Massive shame if true, as obviously got some decent horses too.

            • Yeah I was the one who asked the question, if you listen though what Kevin does say is he is focusing on quality over quantity when it comes to the jumps so when he does send out runners they could be well worth keeping an eye on, he certainly wasn’t keen to give a name for one to follow so keeping their powder dry

              • I think that'll be it. Not that he'll stop jumps all together. Other than those capable of competing for the big handicaps, he'll clear out those destined for handicaps quickly. Then he can focus his attention on those horses deemed capable of winning graded races.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

Not sure how related to Sir Erecs death it was but it really seemed to hurt him. Obviously all horse deaths are terribly sad for the trainers but they really seemed to believe he was a future Champion Hurdler. Mentioned how the loss hurt his yard a lot last season too

                  • It's just the obvious call for Joseph. (Not that he is going to be making the decision for himself based on just one factor)

He's proven he can win top races in any sphere, in any country... so why improve your string over obstacles when you have Willie AND Gordon to compete with.

When he's got a completely different main rival, who isn't even a rival really, to compete with on the flat.... where the money is just much more appealing to.

An absolute no brainer that they wind up the NH horses..... perhaps Donnacha will have a go for a bit while he grinds his teeth too.

                    • I remember Donnacha saying when he was starting out he wouldn’t be having a go at National Hunt like Joseph.

Fair enough.... for the same reasons as above really, I can't blame him.
