I’ve had some 27 matched for the race next year and will be happy pressing in the Autumn if/when the target is confirmed.
The market will be dominated by multiple Irish big guns, most of whom won’t line up here, so there should be continued value on ROTS right up to game time...
I'm a very big fan of ROTS and he's still 33s with Unibet. I don't actually think he jumped aswell as he can in the Ryanair and obviously fell but it was still too early to know what would have happened as he was still travelling well. I think the Ryanair is going to be a fantastic race next year if a few of the likes of Min, Allaho, Defi, APT, Samcro, Simply The Betts to name a few turn up. I would still happily take ROTS above them until all(possibly not Defi) until he disappoints(I have him EW). The only niggle in the back of my mind is that he's now raced twice at Cheltenham and fallen both times. Also, I'm worried(hopefully it's just me with my head in the clouds) he may be aimed at the King George and if he were to win that, they would then aim him at the GC. Twiston-Davies did exactly the same with the last really good horse he had in Imperial Commander who did win the Ryanair(but not the KG) and then the GC the following year. Hopefully the GC won't be ROTS aim as I think IC was a much stronger stayer.

    • I have said elsewhere that Riders Onthe Storm is too big at 33/1, particularly as I don't rate last year's novices.

He has a change of gear and I don't see even Twister going up in trip when he has unfinished business in the Ryanair.

Will NTD go pot hunting with him, during the season, or build the campaign around the Ryanair?

It wouldn't surprise me to see him chase the money in something like the BetVictor as it is double the money of the G2 Christy 1965 at Asot around the same time. I think he will still be competitive off 162 and it will give us another chance to see if he acts around Cheltenham. After that, I really would love to see him in the King George...

It'd be some performance to win the Bet Victor off 162. I'd head to Ascot a week later before a shot at the KG.

KG looks like it could shape up to be a hot race to have your first try at 3m, I wouldn't be convinced ROTS is a stayer

Also on the KG, do people reckon Nichols will target CDO and Topofthegame at the race?

              • Clan des Obeaux put in a performance for the ages last term, the most impressive performance since Kauto Star routed his field by 30 odd lengths so I’d say he’s a shoo in for the race, especially as Nichols has said the horse won’t be returning to Cheltenham.
TOTG I’d expect to miss Kempton, he’s being aimed at the old Hennessy so I’d expect him to bypass the Christmas meetings and head to Trials Day possibly...

                • Visually that performance last christmas was very impressive but are you not slightly concerned about the strength of the form considering the circumstances? Cyrname had just had a very tough reappearance, LIT wasn't right and needed a wind-op and Footpad was USA bound... Race seemed to fall apart in my opinion

                    11/2 available.
That'll end up looking an each way bet to nothing even in a strong King George (which you'd assume it would be)

Next in the market all available at 10/1 are LIT and Santini (neither strike me as Kempton horses) and Champ. Nothing against Champ, but he has to reach CDO's level and not t'other way around.

Allaho and Kemboy next at 14's, both unlikely runners from the Mullins yard when they have their own races to run in?

Cyrname next at 16/1 - hard to fancy until he bounces back on the track?

Defi Du Seuil at 25/1 is the only other horse I'd make a case for and he's by no means certain to be taking in a 3 mile chase, when Hobbs has said he'll likely have a simialr campaign (meaning Tingle Creek etc)

ROTS shares the same sire as Might Bite, he is settling better with age and the ground is usually better at Kempton so I would love to see him have a try.
I think Cyrname is a great price at 16s if the KG is his aim.

                      • At this stage the 3 I'd have in mind for the King George at big prices would be Real Steel, Angels Breath and Master Tommytucker. I think the race would suit Real Steel perfectly its just a question of whether he'd travel over but he's not one of the stables big guns so I think it's quite likely at this stage and if he did he wouldn't go off anywhere near the 40-1 available. Angels Breath looked promising this year before injury and has mainly raced right handed so this could be a target and again 40-1 is a fair price. And finally Master Tommytucker I just feel this horse has a real special performance in him if he puts it all together. All 3 runs this season where at Kempston so Nicholls must feel the track suits he's a big price at 66-1 but comes with big risks.

I hope not but we all know history suggests he isn't a target trainer.

This horse still takes a tug and consequently, the intermediate trip is as far as he needs to go.

I’d say Nicholls will run three all being well. CDO Cyrname (easier prep) and Master Tommytucker.

I think Your'e spot on Istabraq , Could be Santini and Topofthe game.
in the Cotswold chase going toe to toe.

                              • Nicholls said the other day Master Tommytucker is likely to go over to Down Royal to test him and to programme his season from there. Wanted to get a clean round in beforehand though.

CDO is obviously going to the King George, and I'd expect him to travel with Tommy for the 3m Grade 2 where beaten by Road to Respect last year. Aintree and Punchestown to follow.

Topofthegame goes straight to the Ladbrokes and then I wouldn't be surprised at all if he went for the Savills Chase at Christmas and was then given the break until March.

Frodon for the Betfair and then the Cotswold like in 2019 I'd imagine. I'd be surprised if Cyrname went anywhere other than Ascot for the 1965, but he won't be dialled up like last year.
