      • MY DROGO
didn't surprise me because he's high-class, but the improvement with his jumping from Newbury to today has surprised me. We'd done loads of schooling with him but the improvement from that to today was incredible. We've got no wild ambitions as a hurdler and his ability isn't going to force us into making mistakes. We could look to step him up in trip and he could go to Huntingdon for the Sidney Banks, perhaps miss Cheltenham and then go to Aintree. If Cheltenham was really soft, we might go there, and I wouldn't be afraid over two and a half miles of running him on better ground -

I backed My Drogo for the Ballymore after his maiden win and seeing that he was finishing well in his bumper behind I am Maximus. Topped up again for the Ballymore after todays race @ 25/1 and also did a saver @ 20/1 for the Supreme. If he wins well again before the festival I would be surprised if connections can resist running in Cheltenham given normal good to soft/soft

          • The Dublin Racing Festival is the likely next port of call for Champion Bumper favourite Sir Gerhard.

A ?400,000 purchase for Cheveley Park Stud after winning his only start in the point-to-point field, the five-year-old made the perfect start for his new connections when scoring by 14 lengths on his bumper debut at Down Royal in late October.

Gordon Elliott’s charge strengthened his position as ante-post favourite for the Festival in March with an impressive display in a Listed event at Navan on Friday, and an outing at Leopardstown is next on his agenda.

Chris Richardson, managing director of owners Cheveley Park Stud, said: “He showed plenty of ability (at Navan) and we were very excited.

Envoi Allen won the Listed race Navan before going to Leopardstown and then Cheltenham and I think we’ll probably follow the same route.”

The leading owners have plenty of high-profile horses entered over the upcoming festive period, headed by the brilliant and unbeaten Envoi Allen, who has options at Leopardstown and Limerick.

Elliott suggested he was likely to sidestep Christmas following his latest triumph in the Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse, but running plans have not yet been finalised.

Richardson said: “I haven’t really had a chance to discuss plans with the Thompsons (owners) or Gordon yet, so we’ll see.

“We’re in a fortunate position to be a bit spoilt choice and we’re just having to decide what goes where. That will unravel as we go through the next week.”

Ballyadam could carry the famous Cheveley Park colours in the Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown on December 27.

Allaho appears unlikely to run in either the King George at Kempton or the Savills Chase at Leopardstown after disappointing on his seasonal reappearance in the John Durkan at Punchestown, but A Plus Tard looks set to tackle three miles for the first time in the Leopardstown race.

Richardson added: “The Royal Bond was the plan for Ballyadam, which he won nicely, and obviously the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham (is a target), but where we go before then I’m not quite sure yet.

“On the basis of Allaho’s last performance we’re probably going to have a bit of a regroup. He’s certainly not going to come to England for the King George and I think Willie (Mulins) will look for something closer to home.

“I think the trick with A Plus Tard is he likes to go left-handed. It looks like he’s going to step up to three miles and it might give us a few more options going forward.”

Appreciate It runs in the Grade 1 Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle and I think he’s come on a great deal since his opening win over hurdles at Cork. We possibly could go out in trip with him later in the season but I think two miles is fine for him right now

If he beats the current Supreme fav then surely they'll go Supreme? Can't see him being quick enough to beat Ballyadam though.

None of us can possibly back any of Gordon's horses with confidence at this time.

                      • This is going to be a lazy comment, so I apologise in advance. I have a busy day, so will actually have a look into this later this evening. I recall reading a comment last year, that any horse running at the Dublin Festival will not be winning a race at Cheltenham. Did that ring true? I appreciate it was a hard slog, but is it something worthy considering again for this year. Envoi for example skipped the DRF, and produced at the track. Delta Work on the other hand, won at the DRF and didn’t run so well at Cheltenham - although you could argue he just isn’t good enough to win a Gold Cup. Just interested in people’s views. Thanks.

                        - Just saw that Min finished 2nd to CPS and won a few weeks later. So theory debunked already this was in response to Mullins stating his next targets, many of which would be at the DRF. Mods, feel free to move this to general chat if you few it’s more suitable there.

: MCFABULOUS will have an entry for the Stayers' Hurdle in case it falls apart but I would say we'll keep him fresh for Aintree. The two and a half miles there would suit him well because he isn't short of boot. He wasn't beaten too far at Newbury but I'm not convinced I want to give him a hard race against those horses at Cheltenham and I can't see how we can beat Paisley Park and Thyme Hill. He is going to be a super chaser. I see him as one to come back here for the Kauto Star on Boxing Day. Three miles over fences at Kempton would be perfect for him - winning trainer Paul Nicholls
