I had an online account.with Ladbrokes when the foot and mouth stopped the festival, and after many arguments they said it was an act of God. It was an anxious time as all my AP bets were with them, though in the end they did give everyone their money back, but they took ages to make a decision. All other bookies had said weeks prior to them they were paying back bets. I had one more call with them, cancel my account and i will never have a bet with you again. I never have.

Taken from the morning show today

believe they said punters wouldn’t lose out but wouldn’t commit to justice refunds. Maybe something around free bets rather than money back

Be interesting to see how this would work for me given they restricted, virtually closed, my account in September, so I face the potential of being refunded in the region of 80 points in free bets I could never use....

          • Be very interesting to see what way the exchange bets would be settled if 1. No festival or 2. No irish

what way did they work it at christmas, with the irish travel ban does anyone know if irish ap bets on the exchange were losers or?

              Not sure.

The exchange feels different to me.

I feel like you pay your money and take your chance with that, as the 'layer' is a person who also has the same factors to take in - which is compensated by better prices.

I feel like bookies would refund and exchanges wouldn't (and shouldn't) - anyone laying Irish prices now at bigger odds deserves to win your money.... in the same way if you take a bigger price now it's factoring in the chance it's a non-runner! Fill them in!

Bookies are different, it's about how it looks, and the bigger picture... the fact plenty have said they'll do justice refunds and 'stand the prices' of the English runners (Sam Boswell from BetVictor said that today) is fair game... they don't have to, but will... in the main.

As I said somewhere else, I'm not worrying about it myself.... I don't use the exhanges as much though for backing so not really something I've thought much about in terms of risk.

              • I can confirm all exchange bets will be settled as they normally would.

To be fair, I'm not worrying about it.

If it happens, it's a fucking shocker of a season and I'll be doing everything I can to break even and then hanging up my ante post boots.

Picking ante post winners is hard enough without worrying about this kind of shit
In some ways I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels like this! Think there was horse flu as a threat over the last couple of years as well...

For the last few years (since I’ve taken this more seriously) I’ve always hit a flat spot in running in either Jan or Feb where I’ve thought “if I could cash out at this stage for money back - I’d be seriously tempted”. This probably means I’ve over-extended myself for the festival - and I’ll definitely be reappraising what I do in the future, whatever happens this year.

The fact is though - we can’t cash out all of our positions. Either (a) the festival will go ahead behind closed doors (which would be amazing from my selfish perspective as I wasn’t going anyway - but is also the best we could hope for right now), (b) there will be no Irish or French runners allowed over (hmmmmmm), or (c) there will be no festival at all

All I can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst. This means not panicking and cashing out anything that I would likely regret cashing in the event of (a), ensuring the “best of British” are covered and hope for some justice refunds for the event of (b), and for (c) focus on the fact that it’s completely out of my control and I wouldn’t have lost anything (except any cash-outs at a loss - and a hell of a lot of time and effort).

I can’t think about this too much today or it will send me in to a dark place I fear. I don’t think it’s going to be a very productive Monday at work

                  • Has anyone actually thought of concentrating on english trained runners in specific races where there is a strongly fancied irish fav as a 'back up' incase the worst happens? Could always cash out these back ups if confirmation of the irish are allowed.

People have permed UK runners in races like the Marsh, QMCC...

I haven't bothered, I don't think it's feasible and I'll end up with bets I don't particularly want... a lot of stake to tie up for only a small percentage chance.

I'm not knocking it, I just haven't really bothered.

I think this is a clever idea but only if you have cashout otherwise you'll likely be stuck with a bunch of bets you don't want...

                        • I personally have no interest of backing English trained horses, as don’t want to back for the sake of a ‘cover’ bet and tie funds up on horses I have no interest in.

I can see why people would do it, and like Kev says, I’m not knocking it as certain people’s tactics and ways of betting are different.

I just think a festival without the Irish would be dreadful and wouldn’t have the real excitement that we know Cheltenham gives us all.

I wish I had multiple PP accounts!

That will be NRNB, and best price anywhere else is 7/1

Nice way to get Paisley in the book!
