  • Following on from a mention of books in Kev's diary section (didn't want to comment there to clog up the diary), are there any books people would recommend ahead of the new NH season.

Mark Howard book was mentioned (first I'd heard of it).

I'd also seen Paul Ferguson's Jumpers to Follow be advertised on twitter.

Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

I wouldn't be following any selections on there blind, just looking to improve my knowledge, especially with the new crop of novices coming through, learn about previous Point-to-Point form etc.

Mark Howard's OJA is head and shoulders above the rest for me. Should be out early September.

Agree with this, got it for the first time last year, great read.

Hits a fair few winners from it not just at the festival as well.

              Interesting indeed!

Am I right in saying if he makes the festival next year he’ll be 7?

He will be yeah. See if he retains his ability and how he jumps a hurdle.

                  Agreed.
His cheltenham update he gave 4 tips outside of Cheltenham at the end so far 3 have run and all won. 10/1, 11/4 and 6/5 fair to say it more than pays for itself!

Wowsers. Wasn't expecting him back. Proper spanner in works that. Watch his Festival prices go blue !

                      A spanner in the works?

                      Bit extreme isn't it?

Unless you were genuinly hoping you'd worked out the running plans for all the novice hurdlers already...

It was FH Supreme and Ballyadam Ballymore but that spanner has thrown me off course....

                        • John Morris produces an excellent book too. I buy all three and enjoy the read. It's good to dip in and out of them all season.

It's also interesting to see where Paul Ferguson, Mark Howard, and John Morris cross over with horses and their respective opinions.

If I were to review all three I'd be writing all night. Needless to say though I'd highly recommend all three.

I have bought the Mark Howard & Paul Ferguson’s books for the past 2 seasons. I find them very informative, interesting and a handy reference point throughout the season. They are normally out mid September. I’ll be trying to get hold of my copies at the earliest opportunity because they do affect the Festival markets.
