  • Ref Genola running in France today (but in no way racing related)... Does anyone know why some French races only involve horses beginning with the same letter?

I'm sure it's a very simple explanation, but not one that I have to hand.

Looking at today's race, all the 4yo start with G and the 5yo with F. Every race Gannat has ever run in only had horses beginning with G. Is it defined by the year they're foaled? It all seems very odd!

All relates to the year they are born ; all horses born in same year will races under a name beginning with a defined letter.

      • I don't think I've ever seen this angle of the Annie Power fall before. You can see both the crowd's and Ruby's reaction. Incredible.

        Start at about 42:50

Thanks Crolwey. I thought that it would be something simple! I assume it's limited in some way though as the next race is for 4yo, but they aren't all beginning with G.

I'd imagine Easysland's target is currently the Cross Country races over the course of the year including Cheltenham, aside from that I wouldn't have a clue whether they are planning a tilt at the Grand National, but can't imagine it would not be talked about among connections.

I saw the special on Sky a while back.
Despite being just 6yo (7yo next festival season) in typical French fashion he has been chasing the three seasons so next season will be his fourth, if they have National aspirations I’d think next year has to be his chance.
French horses generally regress sooner because of their accelerated path as younger horses so I would expect Easysland to be at this level as an 11/12yo if indeed still on training.
Whether we think he’s value at the current prices is debatable...

No, I don't, although if he did I don't think I'd fancy him in it.

How many horses are actually good in both divisions that we've seen?

                  Tiger Roll
                  Balthazar King
                  Cause of Causes
                  Bless The Wings
(could be more, not looked in any depth)

3 of those are/were trained by Gordon Elliott but has about 40 entries for the Grand National each year now too it seems, so to say it's his preferred method is wide of the mark too.

I think they'll be perfectly happy having a Cross Country Champion (if he is that again) and if he did run, it'd be an after thought, so I couldn't possibly back him.

                  • Thoughts on Lostintranslation (whom I've backed today) for the Gold Cup, having finished 3rd in this seasons race after 78 days off and a wind op, could improve for a better prep, right?

LITs first two runs last season were both very good, and a good foundation for the season. of course the chase for the £1M bonus at Kempton at Christmas went badly wrong.

I like the horse a lot, but I have to question what the trainer will do differently prior to Cheltenham, to give him the best chance of winning the Gold Cup.

I guess the difference being that they would hope for an uninterrupted prep, he had a wind op prior to the festival with no prep run in between. Tizzard said he had a breathing problem at Kempton, and clearly the op worked, but can't help but feel they missed a step by not getting a run in between (probably weren't able to due to recovery time).

                          • Just on the Bob Olinger point, I loved his bumper win - have seen someone say his PTP was impressive - is there a way to watch back PTP video replays? Always wondered

I’m keeping an eye on micro manage for the supreme (I know he’s not the usual french ricci horse).

Won 2 races nicely on the flat and been off a year or so. Hoping he’s going to be over obstacles as I’m sure there was potential chat he could have been a triumph horse, which didn’t materialise.

Spot on ; had a setback before Christmas and Patrick then said may target the Melbourne cup as part of a flat campaign so will be wait and see if they go over hurdles with him or not but the fact they reported him to be schooling well over them last year is good news.
Similar to Rayapour another interesting one, they seem to have kept back a lot of the Juveniles last year.
