Champagne Fever - the worst trained horse in history....

Coincidentally, I saw a Sky RaB this morning for Captain Kangaroo for next years Champion Bumper with 40-1 quoted. The fact this is in the NH RaB and not the Cheltenham RaB suggests this might have been requested before the Clonmel win and the horse is well thought of (the fact it won on debut @ 10-1 might contradict this).

I doubt Mullins would keep a 6 year old to Bumpers next season, but it could be an interesting one that’s under the radar.

I wonder if any on here have knowledge about the horse.

I can’t Sharjah improving enough to win a CH. He ran his race this year and finished a credible 2nd but can’t see him being good enough to win. He was 33/1 to win this seasons CH in September and he will be a year better but I don’t think any better. With some progressive novice hurdlers coming through the ranks plus a few other decent hurdlers back from injury hopefully next seasons CH will be a stronger race than this years.

...I think that’s fair, but the point being made was it didn’t have its ground and placed horses have a decent record in future CH’s. I don’t believe the article is making a strong case for it to win, just that it’s overpriced with some firms @ 33-1.

I wouldn't be so dismissive TKP, whilst he runs his races on deep ground he is a better horse on a sound surface so the Sunday/Monday rain that hit the course this year went against him in my opinion, he still got to within 3l of Epitante who needs cut to be seen at her best.
Obviously there will never be rattling quick ground on a Tuesday but had he encountered Thursday/Fridays ground I would have expected Sharjah to have gone very close indeed...

There has been no talk of what he'll do next season. We're still waiting to see what will become of this season.

Given that it was a 2m2f bumper at Clonmel you'd hope that he'd get the Ballymore trip but he's flat bred and showed a decent turn of foot after travelling comfortably so the Supreme might suit. You'd have thought that he'd want cut in the ground.

People do have a tendancy to dismiss previously placed horses and at 33/1 each way, if he placed again you'd make your money back and more.

Epatante sets the standard, Sharjah isn't that far behind.... and that makes him the second best 2 mile hurdler at the moment?

Granted, there are some nice looking progressive novice hurdlers coming through, but that's true every year and they don't all make the grade etc... and they won't all run here. If Envoi Allen, Abacadabras, Goshen and Shishkin ran, 33/1 wouldn't look as good, but the chances all 4 line up are very slim.

Sharjah has a known target, has the best trainer in the world and most importantly, he isn't a 33/1 shot based on his form.

In my opinion, beaten horses are some of the best places to find some value.... Politilogue would be an example right off the top of my head.

The first festival I recorded my bets at

It's up to the Thursday, I only had 4 bets that day!

                    Big Bucks (won)
                    Grand Crus e/w (places)
                    Robinsons Collonges (don't remember this)
and Kalahari King who was 2nd (backed win only)

Buena Vista, Alberta's Run and Big Bucks all came back and successfully defended their crown. I didn't back any of them

Watched day ones races again yesterday, and have to agree.
What the Fuck was he expecting Asterion to do.
                          Suddenly start jumping straight.
                          Proper Numpty stuff.
After getting bumped at third last, you surely take a pull and drop back a bit and then go up his inside at the next ?
Or let the reins out and get a length up.
He couldn't have put the horse in a worse place, right alongside.

Exactly Q. Luckily, I hadn't backed the horse but I'd still be fuming now if I had.

He's mega interesting for next season and I'm tempted to take the 50s for the Arkle, given that he was traveling sweetly and jumping to the front when brought down.

I agree that 33/1 is a big price but it’s the same as this seasons early price. If you took 33/1 now your hope is the race cuts up because Sharjah is surely close to his ceiling in terms of progress?? And I do get irritated by the excuse of his ideal running conditions because he’s rarely going to get the ground he desires in March, we get too much rain every winter and spring. It’s the Supasundae situation again, he’s only going to win by default like Politilogue did in the CC. Defi ran a stinker, well below the standard of previous races and if Altior and CPS turned up Politilogue surely would have finished 3rd?? Unfortunately we’ll never now. Personally I wouldn’t rule out backing Sharjah at 33/1 but I can’t see his price changing much over the next 6 months so would rather wait to see what happens to this seasons better novices in terms of hurdles/fences and whether the likes of BVD, Klassical Dream and Saldier come back with a bang.

Just seen as well, the end of Day 3, David Pipe was leading trainer at that point
