    Too high profile I'd imagine.

They skipped the festival this year with a view to his long term future. I doubt they see his long term future plans include winning a novice handicap?

They have to think he's better than that.

I remember Ruby saying they were in a tough spot with him because he doesn't have the pace for a Ryanair but won't have the stamina for a Gold Cup.

I can't imagine him getting the 3m2f well enough now after seeing how quickly he went out... so Ryanair would be the target IMO, but I'm not sure I'd get too excited about him.

Like the horse, worry would be if he got home or not up the hill. Obviously only 7, so probably still a small amount of improvement likely, would probably prefer him at the Aintree festival or the Ryanair myself.

        • What did people make of Saint sonnet’s run in the marsh and where can you see him going from here

I was going to pose the same question for Annie Mc, she came 9th in the Marsh but I think was eased out by JJ’O when it obvious she couldn’t win. She did complete but the Marsh is the same distance as the new Mares Chase and I’m currently undecided on whether to bet on her at 25/1 to the Mares Chase. She’s one of a few mares proven over fences and still young and progressive. Thoughts??

            • With regards to Saint Sonnet he appeared to struggle with the pace in the Marsh but the first 3 are all very classy horses so I think this years Marsh was a very strong race. He’s stuck in no mans land at present with a festival target but he’s still young so he either has to go up in distance or improve at 2.5 mile. If I owned him route I would aim him at the Bet Victor Gold Cup at Cheltenham in November, another warm up handicap and then have a crack at the Plate handicap on the Thursday.

If the racing gods would answer act on my wish list then they would create a 2 mile 2 furlong race on the Saturday for horses like Saint Sonnet, Mister Fisher etc along with my other new races:

              2.5 mile cross country
              4 mile open handicap
              Veterans 3 miler
              1.5 mile novice handicap
              Mares Chase

              And a 1.5 mile hurdle

              • TKP - you just turned the festival into a 6 day extravaganza.
Though the minimum trip for a non bumper NH race Is 2m...

Fear not Istabraq the racing revolution is not far away, I’ll be bridging the gap between flat and NH and mixing up the races big time when I take charge

Nicholls said recently that Saint Sonnet will be targeting the Bet Victor. One for the notebook.

Hahaha can’t wait. All we need now is a 2 furlong sprint where the horses ride the jockeys!

Yeah I seem to remember seeing that somewhere.

Almost as insane as the 5f hurdle race I saw in Australia many years ago...
