Maries Rock for the Mares Hurdle at 33/1 -- she is coming of the back of an injury but hendo thinks shell be fine this season, is she one to hover over the place bet mark at whilst she is in her first run back, she has won every race very impressively and has NICO & Hendo combo.... I think she would have won the mares novice this year

Still firmly in the mullins camp when it comes to mares, yes honeysuckle lowered the flag in the open mares race but firmly believe the race tactics cost bdd. Honeysuckle a very very good mare though so not taking anything away from her.
Bold statement to say you think she would have won the novice given how concertista demolished the field with the biggest win margin of the week.

re Concertista she got beat byEglantine Du Seuil in the 2019 edition who since then got beat by honeysuckle, stormy island and dame de camagaigne so that form isnt brilliant. Impressive on the day agreed.

Does anyone know if the new Mares Chase is going to be a handicap or graded 1 or 2 race?
It’s a Grade 2 so some weight allowance will be allocated.Last edited by The King Pimm; 4 May 2020, 07:45 PM.

Marie’s Rock would have be be something special to have beat concertista in the mares novice this year. She may well be in time but to date we can’t assume that. Has a really nice turn of foot though definitely. Given the poor ratings we see from novices these days beating 130 horses isn’t much to shout about either.

I'm very keen on Concertista too and think she's a great EW bet to nothing for next year's mares hurdle. She came second in her first ever start over hurdles in a good novice race last year and I thought her run this year was so visually impressive. She's going to improve again this year and hopefully the Mares will be her main aim for the year like Cheltenham was this year.
It sometimes can be difficult to rate form but I think Elfile can be a good yardstick. She came 5th(only beaten 5.5l) in the Novices last year and then came 3rd in the Mares(beaten 7l). She could have improved massively in order to have come 3rd but I think Concertista definitely has improved. She's 10/1 now which I've taken but I think her odds may get bigger in the Autumn as I think there's going to be only 1 race next year when she'll be at her total peak. Wishful thinking will also have Honeysuckle go chasing and Benie go for the Stayers(and comes second to Paisley Park )
Regarding Marie's Rock, a line of form through Midnight's Gift show's how much she would have needed to improve on that Taunton win to have been successful in the race won by Concertista(although Midnight's Gift may have severely underperformed).

...Real Steel is of interest given how well it ran in the Gold Cup. It was in the mix rounding the top bend, but didn’t get home. Only a 7yo, I wonder if the plan is to have another go at the big one, come back in distance or even avoid Cheltenham.
