    For me yes.
It’s rare for a Triumph winner to drop back in trip, that stamina sapping race is usually a stepping stone for stayers, as versatile as Defi is if ever there was a champion chase for him to win it was this year.
Fakir for me just got outstayed in his Triumph and I think has more natural speed, no question in my mind that if he jumps 2 out he wins the Arkle and as painful as that was (for me at least) it is allowing me to get stuck into him for next seasons championship race at fancy prices.
It’s a weak division with Altior ageing and Chacun fragile, the Arkle 1-2 I’d expect to be prominent next year yet are oddly 20/1 and 25/1.
I’ll need a heap of self discipline all the time those prices are avaialble...

Defi won the JLT so I’m with you on the trip there , but when did fakir run in the triumph , he came 4th I’n the supreme last year? Or you mean he got out stayed in the arkle ?

      • I'd be of the opposite opinion think Hobbs will want another go at the Champion Chase it wasn't the distance that beat Defi he just didn't run his race. I thought Fakir was done for tactical speed in the supreme and did win over 2 and a half miles last season over fences. I could be wrong and seem to be in the minority but that's the beauty of these forums hearing other people's opinions.

        • Yes apologies, Supreme as a 4yo.
I confused myself with his Aintree run behind Pentland Hills.
Ignore me, it’s an age thing....

I got the feeling that they went champion chase because he had won the key trials and the opposition didn’t look great at some stages. Not that they thought 2 miles was what he wanted. I think on more than 1 occasion hobbs mentioned about “seeing what Altior does” before making their mind up to go for the champion chase.
By the time they had to make their decision Altior only had 1 run over 2 miles but it sounded to me like Hobbs would have preferred to go up in trip.
Given last year was the year to win the champion chase if any, I think Hobbs will want to be stepping him up this year and may have even wanted to go Ryan air last year but I imagine it would have looked a silly move after winning some of the key trials.

Just my opinion and how I read it last season, I’l be covering any race as well for insurance

            • When Defi wins the King George we'll be talking of him as a potential GC horse

                • I’ve had Israel Champ (25/1) and My Whirlwind (20/1) to be added to the TWAR market with Will Hills

...that 22-1 (with boost) for My Whirlwind is reasonable, given it’s a general 14-1 for the Mares Novice. It was in my portfolio this year but never made it.

                    • Given what Lostintranslation did stepping up in trip I’d be keen on Defi for the king George.

Couple that with Lit in the betfair, nice looking double surely.

Edit - just checked. lit very short 5/2 365 for betfair, 16/1 defi for the king George.

                      • Just read the Q&A of Henrietta Knight on RP website.

I know few were mentioning your darling, apparently had an infection at Warwick post race, that would explain the poor result. She mentions having pretty high hopes for him over staying trips as well as hoping Gallyhill and Keskonrisk can blossom. All have apparently schooled well before going out to grass for the summer.

Yeah mentioned it in the trainer quotes tab other day, I was taken with Your darling on debut so hoping to see him flourish next season. Ben could certainly do with a good start after last seasons early woes!

I know Q was also really keen on the prospect of DDS stepping up in trip. DDS was entered in the KG last season up until the 5 day decs so hope Hobbs/McManus/Berry are interested in 3m this season.

                            • Ballyadam into 7/1 TWAR with hills. That’s unbelievably short for someone who hasn’t yet run over hurdle. I imagine plenty will be on at bigger prices but I certainly won’t be topping up at 7s!

                              • Hills have added Brewinupastorm TWAR at 25's (which can be boosted). He fell too early in the Arkle for us to know how good he is but it wouldn't surprise me if he does prove to be a CC or Ryanair horse.

There is a chance they will start him off in a small intermediate chase somewhere but I would have thought something like the Haldon Gold Cup or what was the Paddy GC would be a good early season target. If he does progress and take in a race of that nature 25's would be a very good price given we don't really know at this stage if he will be campaigned as a 2 miler or 2 mile 4 horse.
If his level of form doesn't improve / stays constant with what he achieved last season will go down the handicap route in which case the grand annual or plate would come into play and if chasing doesn't work out there is enough in his hurdles form to think he could be a county hurdle or coral cup horse.

Worth considering. I haven't yet pulled the trigger as wanted to see if anybody heard anything on his well being since his arkle fall?
