Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

  • On a first glance through it, there seemed an awful lot of quotes from P2P man Declan, and trainer/connection comments and surprisingly few comments from Mark Howard himself.

It looked a bit of a rush job, with less informative input from the writer.

That doesn't mean it wont be roaring successful, but if you buy a MH book I think you expect more insight from the man himself, particularly in his own Top 40.

I thought that too SW. It seems to be something he has relied on more and more as the years have passed. That said, Declan is very good at what he does, and I think it's a case of MH wanting to give him credit rather than stealing his work.

With a bit of luck he will be at an event in a pub my pal has recently bought next year if/when the restrictions are lifted. You can offer him some advice clearly or be on the panel as FJF leader
Have I offended you by suggesting the book isn't worth buying?

Would you not back yourself to be able to beat the Upping The Ante boys?

Would you not fancy your chances of being able to do a top 40 to follow that would make money?

Surely armed with your book, this forum, your mate and his panel you'd smash it.

I shall look forward to your diary making an appearance?

You don't seem to think I am any good at what I do, but I can live with that *fights the tears*

Whats your problem with Upping the Ante? Of all the racing presenters out there i find them two the least annoying

Mainly it annoyed me that they 'moved the markets.'
I don't think either of them made a profit from their selections so I don't think it was justified, it's just circumstance.
The selections I thought were not value compared to what pretty much everyone on here already had too.
No issue with the presenters, both likeable in opposing ways.

Essentially, I genuinely believe this forum is the best place to be if you want to punt ante-post on Cheltenham, bar absolutely nothing. It's better than any podcast, any preview or any video blog that I've come across.

Of course that doesn't mean I personally, or that 'the forum' would know more than any of these people, day to day, week to week, but as an angle towards Cheltenham I am yet to see anywhere better.

You’re comparing apples with pears there. This forum will always be more informative as people can discuss anything they want and at anytime they want. Upping the ante is a weekly programme with one tip from each presenter each week. That format doesn’t have the flexibility needed to catch the prices you can from people on here or have the in depth discussions had on here.

                      • Outlaw,
                        Perspicacity ?

There is no doubt that this forum (overall) provides more insight, immediacy and detail than many other outlets.
                        But like Vautour mentioned.

It's apples and pears really. The upping the ante boys have their hands tied a little bit, and as soon as sponsorship comes on board for the majority of these types of media content, then the edge is knocked off quite a bit.

Which means there is Gold in them damn hills, just that most of it's been mined, and there's only an odd nugget left.
But you can buy T-shirts and Ice cream.

The books are similar, so it's about (value/cost/pain) vs (worth/gain) on an individual/personal level.

                        Preview nights are similar too.

I don't buy the books as I can't be arsed reading them (pain).
But I do watch the preview nights (some of them anyway) - also pain mainly, but I'm very excited by that time. So it's a gain as it passes the time to the tapes going up.

They don't just come up with their tips spur of the moment though do they? Off the cuff?
They have all week to pick them.

I will do an Upping The Ante challenge, where I put up 1 tip on the same day they do. It is clearly more difficult to do that.... but that shouldn't move markets?

They're putting themselves at a disadvantage, that isn't my fault - but I still fancy my chances.
