Indeed, but could a few if not all of MD, Con and RD go to the Arkle considering that they are excelling over 2 miles?

RD is the most likely at this stage . MD simply isn't good enough and won't stay 2 1/2 around Cheltenham and I don't think Concertista would be up to winning an Arkle either.

      • I thought that was a good debut from Concertista vs race fit rivals over a sub optimal trip. Not perfect, but encouraging. Stepping stones people, stepping stones....

        • I'd expect Riviere D'etel to go to the Arkle. She'll be a five year old novice that doesn't look like she needs a step up in trip.

Magic Daze will be the Arkle or nowhere. She's an out and out two miler. If they can get her to settle she'll come though.

Concertista could go to either, but given Willie has Appreciate It and Ferny Hollow, I can't imagine she'll go anywhere but the Mares Chase.

I agree that MD may have been written off a little too early. I’m not sure that was the greatest ride I’ve ever seen yesterday and she made mistakes at really bad times. She flew the first and if she had jumped the next couple well I think she would have stole the race in the first minute but she made sloppy mistakes which took all her momentum away and her race was lost at that point imo. On another day she would have been away and gone.

I also agree re RD. I think she is tailor made for the Arkle and I have her as the most impressive of all the 2m novices so far. I know she will lose the allowance but she is improving so quickly that I’m not too bothered by that.

            • Pretty much agree with the posts above.

I'm not giving up on MD yet as I think there is a better horse there than we saw yesterday. To a degree she needs things to fall her way, no need to go any further than 2 miles if possible, which of course is the Arkle trip (although not convinced she wants to see a hill at the end of the 2 miles).

Imo better ground would help and yesterday some of her jumps were really good but there were also a couple of odd jinks to the right down the back straight, some room for improvement there.

The ride she got was also odd, after the first few fences we commented that we had hardly ever seen a 2 mile chase so strung out - so did she leave the race behind by going off like a bat out of hell before steadying?

One other thing I've noticed is that in all 3 of MD's races this year she has been heavily backed pre race, yesterday from around 5/2 the evening before down to an SP of 10/11. That tells me that the stable are confident they have a really good horse at home. Hopefully that can be translated back to the track like it was when she won her beginners chase by 25 lengths, there are enough areas of scope for improvement for me to keep the faith and see where she turns up next.

              • That should really have been on the Arkle thread but hey-ho!

I agree. She jumped ok and I'd expect more when she goes up in trip. I think people being stung by her last year gives her less slack than some other horses.

I know we are in the wrong thread but I fully agree with you IC. She's just a really good 50/1 shot. I don't think she will win but good ground would definitely be helpful and I can still see her placing in an arkle. She does need to settle a bit better or be restrained slightly more (not sure which it is) but her jumping is electric when she catches one right. Would be interesting to see her getting a lead from riviere...

                    • Was really impressed with Annie MC's comeback race after injury and being off since February. Travelled and jumped brilliantly and JJ junior looking through his legs at Elimay behind shows that he thought he had the winner covered before she got tired . Bookies actually pushed her out which was a surprise to me. I do like her place chances and she's certainly good enough to give any mare in the race something to think about.

                      • Anyone got silver forever on their radar for this? I know that nicholls has name checked this race for her.

                        • Yep she is out this Thursday I believe. Comeback run was encouraging after so long out and could be a bit under the radar. 25/1 decent price she was very highly regarded prior to injury.

Yes, she's in my book for the race GV.

I agree she is likeable. The trainer has said on more than one occasion that she is very ground dependent. Whether her price is likely to drop significantly I don’t know but perhaps one for nearer the time?

Also entered in the Warwick race is Kaparde. I think she is interesting. Already looks like she has improved for a fence. I like the breeding full of Cheltenham horses ....Kapgarde out of a Martaline mare A(just to be really crude about it Kapgardes highest rated offspring is APlus Tard and Martaline is Dynaste). On breeding and on her latest run when picking up Mt Leinster you would think she is crying out for a step up in trip. She is 33s with hills who may be the only ones that have her right now? Clearly if she runs and wins she will be on many peoples radar then.
