  • Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase – Concertista, Elimay

“I imagine Concertista will go to the Mares’ Chase and she has good form around Cheltenham. We worked her yesterday and she jumped some hurdles and some fences so we’re very happy. She has a small setback three weeks ago and yesterday was us seeing how she was and she jumped everything fine so we’re very pleased with her.

Doesn't sound ideal prep for Concertista

    • Odd words to use as well.......'I imagine.......' Doesn't give out very good signals does it. Also jumped hurdles and fences. Whereas Elimay just schooled over fences. Sounds like they could be mulling over sending her to the Mares again to me. Wouldn't back/fancy her for either so I'm not fussed.

      • She was fav for a long time but market looks to have it right now...

I hope all 3 stand their ground... might be some nice big 'extra places' available on TGQ.

She's been friendless on here from day one which will make her winning even more enjoyable

To be fair most people's issue has been her price. She's always been shorter than she should have been but I still can't believe she opened 12/1.

I do think what Concertista has achieved has been underestimated. Winning a Grade 2 on debut vs race fit rivals with form boosts since is a good start to her chasing career, and heavy ground over too far LTO would have simply not been to her liking, but she won anyway. We simply haven't seen her and this small setback is perhaps why. Not ideal, obviously, but sounds like she's back on track.

Elimay has been far more liked, and IMO way easier to criticise. Very poor on debut and not fluent at all second time up. I was completely unimpressed as were most. That Naas race was labelled as a decent comeback but it was a piss easy contest and she posted an RPR 25 lower than the previous year. She should be winning that race on rails as would any horse quoted in the top 8 of that market.

If Mount Ida want's further, Concertista's issue isnt resolved and Elimay isnt the horse she once was, then this race is blown wide open and I'm starting to think a horse like Vienna Court might be the play @ 20/1 NRNB.

If all three stand their ground I doubt we will be seeing TGQ in this.

Imo Mount Ida has proved she doesn't need further Charlie and I make her the form choice.

Both her runs this season have been over the mid trip and imo she seems to have improved.

I think the Kim Muir run convinced people she needs an extreme trip - but that has been her only race over 2m 5 1/2f in 7 chase starts.

Like you, I've been slightly underwhelmed by Elimay and there are just too many variables/doubts involved in supporting Concertista.

                • Couldn’t have Mount Ida going left handed over this trip.

She was jumping lengths right in the Kim Muir last season and only got away with it because she was chucked in.
Worth noting she has been campaigned exclusively right handed this season so far.
