  • Actually think I'm going to have to play Protektorat today. Can't get away from his profile and now the grounds coming in his favour as well. Imagine he'll be an unpopular winner but he looked very good LTO.

The likes of Eldarado Allen and Coole Coady have even boosted some of his back form this week, if you want to go down that line.

      • Not got a bet on this and probably won't have one today so I'll be shouting in Galvin for those of you with the silly prices on him.

        • Protektorat will love the cut in the ground. Big chance in my opinion.

Is that by the order of the Peaky Blinders?

            • I actually think the ground will ride faster from what looked yesterday like closer to good to soft than actually soft. Yesterday running on new ground probably saved the meeting after Wednesday's farce. The ground's been drying out now since 7pm on Wednesday, and another fine day is forecast. Galvin, Tornado Flyer, and a very small chance to Protektorat but I think he's not quite top drawer and may have to settle for a place.

I dunno about the ground. It really did persist it down on Wednesday in middle England.

It was riding good to soft, soft in places yesterday by the final race. It will be good to soft all over by the first race today.

                      • Any excuse for me to back asterion. Minella indo finished 4th in an irish gold cup then went on to win a gold cup. Well what do you know, asterion finished 4th this season, that's good enough for me! All in the fallonge again!

I think the horse has a big win in him somewhere along the line.

Cushion over the face at each fence is my advice.
                            Got talent though.

                            • My Annual Losing Selection

I think this is my 11th season without picking out the Gold Cup winner (I count in century's now), and yet to make it onto Gault Stats!!

I've fancied Galvin all season for this, but I'm concerned he will find this level at bit too much. A Plus Tards first run hitting an RPR of 180, I just cant ignore that. Ran a 168 LTO, which suggest he ran a little under par, and was just beaten off by Galvin. I know the trend is against "beaten Gold Cup" horses, but I feel his age and also the breaks he has had inbetween races gives me confidence that last years Gold Cup didnt leave a mark on him.

Protektorat is interesting, a 'Long Run' like campaign, but unlike Long Run this fella hasnt jumped a fence at the Fez, and he goes up against proper 170+ horses
I like him for next years King George.

Minella Indo, I think he'll run well. Surely, at some point, all these races will start taking effect - Ran in the AB, RSA, Gold Cup, numerous 3mile chases and hasnt had the clearest campaigned. Cant rule out, but cant be confident and had him as my main selection

Its been a poor week, I have good positions on a few of these with live antepost bets (mainly on Galvin and Protektorat) which means I've managed to hedge my main bets - Galvin, Protektorat and A Plus Tard will return decent profit. So I can sit back and just enjoy the race

However, I sit want to pick out the winner of this. Sorry in advance

                              A PLUS TARD

By time the gold cup comes around will it still be soft enough for him? Skelton did mention the softer the better.
