….I cashed in the singles but still have it in a few big priced multiples.

Same as Eggs, singles have been cashed but I've left a few each way multiples. Only small stakes though. although the cashout looks pretty healthy.

I asked the same question the other day, someone said pp/betfair had him at 100/1 so i cashed out, i had him at 66/1 and cashout was full stake so made sense for me.

        • I think the only entry Eklat could have made recently was the Gold cup, in which he was entered.
no other major races he'd be looking at are due for entries just yet.

Irish Gold Cup entries next Wednesday may be instructive.

Do you think he’s a player?

                • Can't say we weren't warned! Was always going to happen. The GC has always been his destiny. At his age this is his last chance at a big shot at it to fulfill the JP/AP dream. Madness .

                  • I can't see champ getting anywhere near winning a gold cup but he'd be a big player in the stayers.

                    • He's probably a NRNB player, as he'd surely only run if winning his prep race. He's got one or two pieces of form that give him a decent chance to be fair. But comes with a hell of a lot of risk as well.

Struggle to get last year's effort out of my head.

                      • I’d want 14/1 for him to complete tbh, fair enough game of opinions and all that but there must be plenty in the lively outsider bracket that are better bets at bigger prices I’d be thinking

After the way he jumped last year & him letting me down in several accas Ive got zero interest in backing him for this. There are a fair few others ahead of him outside the “big 3” IMO too, Protektorat being one.

                            Exactly Benjy.
If he lines up in the Gold Cup it means they are happy with his jumping and his back issue has been sorted.
If not he runs in the stayers.

Yes I do, absolutely…….if his prep race goes well.

                              • Since 2016, the Gold Cup has attracted a field of between 9 - 16 runners; so this year what sort of filed are we expecting?

                                Eklat de Rire
                                Fiddlerontheroof
                                Galvin
                                Lostintranslation
                                Melon
                                Minella Indo

                                Protektorat
                                Santini
                                Tornado Flyer

I have discounted the other entries which IMO have either more likely alternative targets or have been entered without a recent run and therefore unlikely to be primed and fit for a Gold Cup run by mid March.

Of the above, there are still doubts over Asterion Forlonge, Aye Right, Champ, Melon & Mount Ida concerning their target so are we looking at a field of 12 max?

Aye Right is a solid handicapper and probably nothing more but when will the connections ever have another shot at the Gold Cup - around the 80/1 mark

Melon - still unexposed at the trip and up until last year an excellent Festival record - around 80/1

Mount Ida - an interesting one. Has been running predominantly in Mares only races but did the same last year before running a remarkable race in the Kim Muir. Unexposed at the extended trip. owners surely dreaming big. Stablemate of Galvin who is surely the yards number one. Is the Mares Chase more winnable?

Do any of the bigger priced runners warrant a closer look? Or are most waiting for NRNB prices?
