I'd say that is a bold but naive statement. It's enormously difficult to win consecutive gold cups and along with the very real possibility that A Plus Tard could reverse the placings, there will be several first time entrants who will no doubt come to the fore over the season.

This is my boring opinion too. He was impressive and I think a more strongly run race, if one occurred, would actually suit more. He's definitely a horse that likes to daydream if it's all a bit straightforward! I wasn't keen on Monkfish but acknowledged that he'd have represented a strong new challenge, now i'm not so sure where that would come from. A lot rests on Envoi Allen, who I would love to see win for pocket and fanboy reasons, but it definitely feels a heart over head thing. I don't feel overly convinced that he wants or gets the trip.
I know there's a decent bit of talk for Eklat De Rire as a big priced outsider and I definitely get the logic, but when the same stable has Minella Indo and A Plus Tard, who will surely both return, then Envoi Allen, who looks like he's being aimed here til performances dictate otherwise, then I don't really see where he fits in.
It's not a race i'm looking to complicate in my head, the only real curveball I can see is Chantry House and his voodoo magic.

I'll repost a stat i put somewhere. Horses who finished placed in a supreme hurdle this century and ran in a future Gold Cup, 6/6. Best Mate x3, Kicking King, Weapons Amnesty, & Sizing John. Step forward Chantry House and his voodoo magic

Latest Exhibition E/W seems a very good play 40/1 due to no Monkfish in my opinion.

What’s people’s opinions on Janidil for this? Al Boum photo probably playing for places next time round as a ten year old and Mullins doesn’t really have anything coming through from last years staying novice Chase division. He stuck to the mid-trips last season mostly, except for when beat out of sight over 2 miles by energumene, but was impressive when winning the race that notably Al Boum Photo won as a novice the year prior to his gold cup win in fairyhouse and was going well enough in the flogas too before coming down. Worth remembering he finished 5th in the potato race that was won by Monkfish, so we know he gets 3 miles round Cheltenham and should stay a bit stronger now with 2 more years under his belt.

only sky have him priced up at the moment which puts me off, but at 33/1 I think there could be worse bets?

He has a chance with Willie losing Monkfish this time round.

When he gets a 3M entry, we should request prices for him for the Gold Cup, to see if we get a massive quote.

weapons amnesty was RSA, war of attrition was gold cup as that’s how I found it

Was beating the Champion Hurdle drum for Honeysuckle all last season and was finally taken seriously. This year I'm beating the Elimay Gold Cup drum. I love the ladies.

I always think Mares when I see your name and Lobos picture, and often it is mares that you are posting about.

Long may that continue, they are on the rise, and rise.

Frodon not likely to go to the Cheltenham Festival according to Nicholls as not good enough to win there now.

                        Plan is to go:
                        Down Royal fully fit first
                        Then King George
                        Then Leopardstown in February
Then to Punchestown at the end of the season and bypass Cheltenham and Aintree

                          Next Destination:

Start of in the Betfair Chase
PN thinks he could be a Grand National Horse in the future, and the next few runs will tell him if he's good enough to go the GC or not

P.S. PN also thinks he made the wrong decision to go for the NHC last season and not the 'RSA'

You're right,i messed that up. WA ran in and won the tater race. Interestingly(to me anyway) KK &WoA both ran in the Arkle as well as SJ so that also a well trodden path to Gold Cup glory. Best Mate was also a short priced Arkle favourite before foot & Mouth buggered everything up.

Surprised he thinks that as next destination looked like he enjoyed every yard of the NHC and couldve done with them going faster and it being more of a stamina test
