  • Mullins has reiterated that they hope Janidil will make a good 3 mile chaser this season a few times now. Hopefully he can give a good account of himself and put himself in the picture for this today

            • Do you think Galvin actually comes here after all? Can't help thinking his last run was dipping the toe and finding the water a bit hot and connections may prefer the safer waters of the CCC for this year at least.... ?

              • I’d make it a 1/10 shot you have slips for Galvin in the XCC. I’d tear them up.

I do and I have written them off. Hope I am wrong but I can't see it.

                  • I’m the same! No way Galvin goes in the XCC. He’s earned a shot at the big one.

After all? I think it's been obvious for a while he comes here, the Grand National an in the distance possibility and an XC appearance something of a fantasy. I speak as someone who has backed all 3 to various extents, the national the most. He ran into a well tuned and on it Frodon and beat by 4L a needing the run Gold Cup title holder. He has to come here.

                      • Galvin will run in the Savills and they've no need to make a decision before then.

That was his first performance of 3m+ as well and as someone alluded to he had no right to finish the way he did after pulling for at least half the race, especially with the conditions the way they were.

He has the profile you’d want for the race, first time runner for the Gold Cup, course experience (although his festival appearance wasn’t great), 6 yo going on 7 as well. I wasn’t willing to risk it pre-race but now with the added evidence 20/1 seems fair enough imo. Don’t get me wrong he has a big mountain to climb to compete with the Irish but he could be only real UK contender at the minute. I’d imagine the Costwold in Jan could be his next target, Skelton likes to run them at Cheltenham too.
I always find it best to follow a horse on the up and he's one that stuck out last year and has continued this year. Too many times, especially the Gold Cup we can easily get stuck on last years horses, but most of the time they will get beat by an improving horse and Protekorat could be that horse. I stick to a format of a Really good horse will give you three good years at Cheltenham and a super star will give you an extra year maybe two. For me Minello Indo and A Plus Tard fall in the really good horse bracket and have had three good years at Cheltenham, but are they super stars! Maybe with A Plus Tard cause of his age you can get an extra year good year in him. That's how I look at things. I've cashed out my Envoi Allen bets and putting the money on Protekorat. I do still like A Plus Tard though, but will be taking on Minello Indo. I believe that Skelton will win a big one soon as well and it could be his year! The horse needs to improve, but I think he has much more improvement in him, which would should put him in the frame.
