I posted this a few weeks ago - Elliott runners in Martin Pipe and Pertemps who have ran in graded novice hurdles thst season (since 2017):

    Delta Work - 1st Pertemps 2018 6/1
    Blow by Blow - 1st Martin Pipe 2018 11/1
    Defi Bleu - 3rd Martin Pipe 2019 14/1
    Champagne Classic - 1st Martin Pipe 2017 12/1
    Runfordave - 3rd Martin Pipe 2017 9/1
    Frontal Assault - 8th Martin Pipe 2021 16/1

As you can see they have a good strike rate. May or may not have been tried on their merits but HG would fit this criteria and would need to be respected if put in a handicap.

Thanks DS No I totally understand the trainers record with novices that have run in graded races (as we all know graded races can be a good way of hiding latent talent) the key point for me was whether they were comparable to HG or not as I am convinced HG has been 100% trying every time. It’s that’s piece alone that is critical to me if that makes sense

Defi Bleu - G2 3rd as favourite, G2 2nd and then unplaced in a G1 at the DRF. Seemed to be trying, came to Cheltenham in the Martin Pipe and placed.

Blow by Blow - won a G3 and unplaced in the Lawlors. Certainly seemed to be tried before deciding on the handicap.

For me, Elliott has 2 types for his handicaps. Those that are laid out for it - DDP and COF as examples - and those who were found wanting in higher grades and moved down, such as the 2 above.

If you adjust the runners I mentioned to remove those who hadn't ran in a graded race before the DRF it's a 100% place record and a serious indicator if HG is moved to the Martin Pipe.

The route of Hollow Games isn't too unusual to end up in the Martin Pipe - just look at the races GDC ran in last year before winning this race.

        • I feel like too much time has been spent talking about Hollow Games as a potential Martin Pipe plot.

He's got others, not just for the Morans, but also other owners, but the two that spring to mind for the Morans are Folcano (currently rated 128 in Ireland), who may reappear in the race having been hampered and fell at the first in the race last season after being well backed for the race leading up to it, and also recent Challow Hurdle third, Gringo D'Aubrelle, who'll almost certainly be nearer the bottom of the weights having been beaten 10 lengths by a 139 rated horse. I expect one or both will have another run prior to the festival in order to ensure both are all but guaranteed to get in at the weights after UK tax.

I think Hollow Games will almost certainly be 'trying' at the DRF, and will likely go close too.

I agree that it's very unlikely he ends up in the Martin Pipe but would need to be respected if he does.

I think Elliott has a different 2 in mind for the Martin Pipe. Gringo I expect to go to the County with a decent chance and I couldn't have Folcano after this years performances.

Chemical Energy was his one for me but my only concern was him being quite ground dependent . I’d imagine they have higher hopes for Gerri . I will be keeping an eye on ash tree meadow nto but he has to find a fair chunk but if they step him up and he improves for it he could be of interest though I was a little disappointed in him behind SG.

So do I, but this isn't the thread and one isn't priced up yet so I'm not giving mine away

                    I agree.
I blame the one that said he's not suited to the race.

Was Chemical Energy one that got named checked for the MP in a stable tour?

                      Edit:

                      Chemical Energy
5g Well Chosen - Meadstown Miss
                      Caldwell Construction Ltd
                      1140-12
                      RPR 127h
He wants two and a half miles. He was a smart bumper horse last year and I think he could develop into a contender for the Martin Pipe later in the season. He could be suited by a race like that.

Honestly not sure I hope not but it wouldn’t surprise me. They have said he must have decent ground though

Edited my post above as it was in the stable tour.

Yeah CE is a really nice prospect for this race. Elliott has named him for the race in his tour so appreciate he won't be hidden in the market but think his current price is really fair. His form LTO has had a nice boost from the 2nd and assuming he gets there I'd he very surprised if he isn't much shorter. The ground should be about as good as all week by the Friday so hopeful he'll handle whatever it is by then.

                              • Classic Getaway entered up at Clonmel Thursday, 4 rivals including cash back and uhtred, so a decent marker if he were to win that!

Not sure if this is the right thread, he’ll need a little pace to be putting those away, although ground is heavy.
