Yeah he'd have to improve plenty to trouble anything of note either way.

    • No need to over analyse this. The fact Davy said HG had more speed makes the Ballymore strong fav in my book. A race usually run at a steady pace and won by quicker horses. Looking at previous GE horses in the Lawlors ie. Envoi and Battleoverdoyen both run in it. Yes GE has stated in the past intended and later confirmed targets for horses but they were kind of like Death Duty and No more heroes where these were horses had AB all over them.

Can't agree with this, Davy said he's not as slow as you think but that makes him in no way quick enough to win a ballymore 'currently'. He was hard pushed to quicken away from some very average horses in terms of ballymore class and time will tell but I think he'll be firmly put in his place if the Lawlors is a decent renewal with some proper Ballymore contenders in there. That's where he will step up to 3m for the bartlett.

You haven't analysed what was actually said though. Davy said ‘he’s not as slow as you think he is, when it turned into a sprint he quickened, put his head out and galloped’.

Having the tactical speed to cope with a Ballymore and quickening off a crawl in a far less competitive race are just miles apart.

He looks all over a stayer, from every which way you look at it.

Yes he is a stayer, he didn't cruise his way clear, he got surrounded by mediocre horses then got pushed to move away from them.

Its heartening he does have some toe vs moderate opposition.
But that alone won't propel him into a Ballymore horse.

It could be more useful in a Bartlett.

Yep - those horses loomed up on him but then lacked the ability to make it count. If that had been something of the calibre of Bob Olinger in the Ballymore, he'd have lost 10 lengths before he started staying on and limiting/reducing the gap; the race would have been over at that point.

In the AB however, that extra bit of toe relative to the stayers/boats, will enable him to maintain his position easily and maybe have something left to finish the race off.

He'd have about as much chance of winning a ballymore as Battleoverdoyen did.
Unless it turns heavy and they go a decent gallop.
Horses like him have won the ballymore, but it tends to go to something with gears that can pick up the bridle and make moves.

                • i've never seen a more obvious horse for the AB than Hollow Games , all his best work was at the end of the race over 2m4f , dropping down in trip from his Hurdling debut over 2m 6f, where he looked much more comfortable , they obviously felt he was classy enough to win over 2m4f , but are surely now certain 3m is the trip he needs, if he runs in the Ballymore i will run up the Cheltenham hill naked right behind him

                  • He's definitely ending up in the Ballymore after some of the above posts ! Guaranteed now

                    • I wouldn’t rule him out of running in the Ballymore, I just don’t think he’d be the winner and I prefer a good few others ahead of him on my short list.

                        Yep.
                        2 different discussions.
He can run where they want.
But I won't be backing him antepost in the ballymore.
would consider after decs though if it came up very soft.

                        • I'd be very surprised if he turned up in the Ballymore. Gordon would be doing a complete u-turn on everything he's said about the horse. And as the majority have remarked he looks tailor made for the Bartlett.

                          • Yeah looks a clear Bartlett horse from the bumpers & this season to me ; would be very surprised if he had the pace or class to win a Ballymore.
Couldn't fancy him for Ballymore personally or entertain a bet there

                            • What's everyone's thoughts on Classic Getaway, not seen him mentioned too much on her, but I personally think he could be a beast. We've already seen the other joint most expensive horse as in Jonbon look decent and with all the things people have said about this horse they all think he could be a bit special. So just wondering are people just holding back on him before he runs or just don't fancy him at the moment.

I'm holding back a bit myself as I've wasted money on him on the bumper, so I don't want to get the race wrong again, although I have this as his likeliest race.

I would never use the price of a horse as a judge of their ability as the most expensive NH horse in Interconnected proves that but I do agree that Classic Getaway is one of the big three for this race from the top 3 Irish yard with JWM and HG
