Pied Piper posted an RPR of 140 without being asked a question and could have bettered this if asked. He's won hard held, handled the track and jumped really well. That's more than half the battle won with a juvenile, all on his second start, which IMO means you can mark the performance up further. We're all hard wired to access form credibility, but IMO, it's not really that relevant here all things considered.

I don’t disagree charlie, but he could still turn out to be Irelands 3rd best juvenile and that was more the point in my post…

He did do it very easily. Not sure how you get to 142 though, as Cormier got 134 and was carrying 6lb's more. I know it doesn't work like this, but that would give PP 128 if you took the time literally. Obviously it can be marked up, but personally I dont think it was any better than what Fil Dor has done on the track myself.

Charlie's points about the track and handling the travelling over etc are obviously valid and positives though.

142 as in an actual race between both horses, Pied Piper would be entitled to 13/14 pounds from Cormier for the age allowance.

Yes I understood what you meant, but even if he would be entitled to the weight allowance in a real race, my point was that he only ran the same time as a 134 horse and was carrying 6lb less, so its a reason to be cautious about just how good it really was...

          • So guys. I am really keen on Joseph's six feet apart at the festival. IBoodles or triumph however I am a bit confused as why he's down this weekend after Doncaster only so recently.
What's the impact of him running this weekend on the boodles weight? Trying to understand the positives.

Anything is possible with these juveniles but I'd be very surprised if PP turned out to be Ireland's 3rd best juvenile based on what we know now.

                • There was definitely an overreaction to pied pipers run

Had Iceo and interne de sivola given their running and hed bridled them then he'd be rightfully the price he is

But they both ran terribly and he ended up very easily beating 2 inferior horses

Does look like Gordon has the race by the balls though if fil dor beats vauban on Saturday

If vauban wins we will have a month of arguments about whether the form between PP and vauban will be reversed

What else would you like to see discussed?

So I can prep.... Shishkin and Energumene, where Sir G runs, what the weather will be like?

So much repeated from here on in, and on every preview..... can't be helped.

I actually think Pied Piper / Vauban and Fil Dor is one of the most interesting points this year!

Hahaha….you forgot the most annoying one….how the UK handicapper has treated the Irish as if they are 10lbs better than their marks despite him dropping all the UK runners this yr…..only for the Irish to go & win most of the hcaps again

We know that any juvenile that runs to 140 or higher around Cheltenham winning hard held on their first or second start for an Irish trainer that does well in this race is going to command significant attention. Perhaps he is shorter than he should be, but the 'what's he beaten' argument holds little weight here IMO. Iceo & IDS not running their race and falling out the back of the telly doesn't detract from PP's time, rating, settling well, jumping superbly, handling the track and winning without coming off the bridle.
