  • Reading that I've put a line through her. Don't think she'd beat the Mullins Mares anyway.

    • Prestbury cup stuff does zilch for me. I’ve never once liked a horse cos it was British or disliked it cos it’s Irish. Just never got the partisan thing in racing. Fav horses at the moment are Irish, probably cos they’re more exciting and talented.

The horse could be trained on the moon for all I care as long as it wins after iv backed it

        • Should've run her in Betfair.

          • Always been amused by the term "raider". All these Irish raiders forging across to foreign lands to pillage and plunder and take what is rightfully ours!

            • I see Mighty Blue has been declared for a maiden hurdle in Naas on Saturday. 3rd in last years renewal, she hasn't been seen on a track since August, so it's good to see her back. Might be one to keep in the back of your mind for the MNH

I backed her for the Mare's Novice Hurdle shortly after watching her run in The Champion Bumper but having watched today's performance I don't think she would have the speed to win over 2m 1f. My initial reaction after watching today's victory is that she needs to step up in trip again to be seen at her best. Maybe not this season but sooner rather than later.

                  Absolutely........

And I think on the whole the same exists in Ireland.
I used to have offices over there years ago so managed to get to a few meetings and at the big ones where a UK horse won it certainly won’t have been met with grandstand silence.
People study form, make a judgement, back that up with hard cash and cheer their horse home…

Apart from the odd idiot Cheltenham will be full of knowledgable racing fans who love seeing the best horses compete against each other in top level competition regardless of where those horses come from.
23-5 is irrelevant in my mind, I’ve seen the shoe on the other foot plenty of times, wasn’t that long ago the Irish left with one winner.
Proper racing fans can appreciate the talent and abilities of the likes of Mullins, HDB, Elliott, Rachel and plenty of others, and as a punter the recent Irish dominance actually makes things a little easier…
Well said mate. I’ll scream the same winners I’ve backed as much if they’re Irish as if they’re English. Makes no difference whatsoever in my mind.

Definitely - I was in Punchestown in 2013 when Sprinter Sacre came over and both him and Nicky got a great reception.

I assume if you're Irish though, it matters more.

                          The English are justifiably disliked.

I'm English, and genuinely don't consider where a horse is from as a factor. I get zero satisfaction from an English horse beating an Irish horse. If 'we' won the Prestbury Cup I know I wouldn't care.... however I can understand why if I was Irish I'd take some satisfaction from it.... and so they should.

They're just better at this. I'm in it for myself, so I'll back and cheer a horse regardless, as I'm sure the majority of punters do... but if it's extra sweet because you're the underdog, then fair play... can't kncok anyone for finding additional joy in anything.

I'd rather be Irish than English to be fair.... but I'm probably xenophobic towards the British

                          • Aren’t most Irish horses French anyway ?
                            Must be an EU thing…

                            • I'm English and try to actively avoid GB trained horses. No point in pretending there isn't a significant talent gap.

ITV also do my head in pretending GB trained horses are amazing

I'm genuinely always surprised that anyone on here, watches ITV.

If you dedicate your time to this forum, surely RTV is worth getting

Although if people would prefer to donate 24.99 a month to FJ than RTV, that's more than welcomed
