  • Sorry should have put it here instead of Kevs Diary, but thought was relevant there too with him backing it, but interested in others who have backed it.

I see the Champ bet is quite popular with members, but is everyone just giving up any hope (if they had any) with Thyme Hill? I know Champ beat him LTO but I would still give him a squeak. As much as I can see the angle of the Champ without the Irish, when I factor TH in it puts me off the price

I personally don't think TH is good enough but, all cards on the table, I've thought that since his novice season so don't know if I'm just biased against him for some reason, possibly because I don't rate Hobbs as a Grade 1 trainer?

Champ is the only one for me who COULD put up a 170 performance against the Irish and so by extension he's the best UK only bet. That bet was another great find by charlie I believe(?)

You know I love that market. 7/4 Champ W/O the Irish is as good as Energumene at 5/6 to place in the QMCC (which was available 3 weeks ago)

Does Thyme Hill not concern you at all Charlie?

No. His level is low 160's and Champ put up a performance of 165 vs a race fit Thyme Hill and won going away off a strong pace which FP and/or KD are almost guaranteed to set. I see no reason to doubt why Champ won't come on for the run given Nicky said he'd gone easy on him, and I think we'll see him confirm that form. I've never really taken to Thyme Hill. He won at Cheltenham once over hurdles but barring that he tend to always find one or two too good and for that reason I'm happy drawing a line through him.

                • FYI Champ @ 7/4 W/O the Irish has now gone 6/4 with Sky. I suspect after he wins on Saturday that this will go 4/6, possibly even shorter. I like the idea of rolling this up because if you have KD & FP covered (which I do), then one or both can beat Champ and you'll still collect under the terms of the bet. So operation roll Champ up at this price (I took 7/4 yesterday) is fully underway because I am in absolutely zero doubt he is the best of the utter dross we have here. Thats definitely unfair on Thyme Hill, I just can't envisage a scenario given the finish LTO where FP setting furious fractions wont play significantly more to Champs strengths than Thyme Hills, and I expect a more race fit Champ to beat TH more comfortably under those race terms, not less.

All over this already, going in again at 6/4 outright & might double it up with Constitution Hill for 13/2 double to get him covered a bit more as an alternative to the Winner (Jonbon)... great shout from you again

I should caveat this with 7/4 and 6/4 does factor in that this race is not set in stone - if it were that would be evens or odds on IMO. I've covered the Gold Cup so if they change their mind I have a price, but I've decided to interpret their language and entires as he comes here and that's that.

Yeah I agree with that too - I don't think they'll be able to get away from how poorly Champ ran in last year's GC (yes we know the issues) & JP Has Chantry House for that race already too...

SkyBet - Go on Stayers market - underneath the standard pricing (minimise the tab) there's "Antepost Non Irish Trained" - he's 6/4 in there.
