Just watched last years race back and he doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves IMO. If Flooring Porter were trained by WPM or HDB he'd be half his current price, and then some.
En route to Cheltenham he needed his first run, then won easily at Navan posting an RPR of 165. He then won the Christmas Hurdle easily, staying on strongly to post an RPR of 167. Nothing in the last decade (inc Apple's Jade when she was immense) has posted a better RPR in that race. He's a front running power house.
He then went to Cheltenham and deployed the same tactics he enjoys - his jumping was absolutely bloody savage - a joy to behold. He wasn't just foot perfect (barring 2nd last) at every hurdle, he was low, fast and attacked his hurdles with aggression, and it created a catalyst for others to come under pressure at different points in the race. Some early, some down the back straight, others at the top of the hill, others coming down it etc, but it took the sting out of every horse behind him because he controlled the tempo of the race. It really was a joy to behold and when a horse has these assets in their locker, there's no reason not to think they can't do the same again, and at 6 going on 7, he could actually be getting better.
There are some new faces to worry about but if he finds the same front running rhythm nothing from last year will worry him, and they were very good horses.

I can't decide if you love it more than I love watching Gabbie Carter whilst eating Jelly Tots out of a bowl.
I think it's a close call.
It's me eating the Jelly Tots, in case anyone's confused.
Gabbie's usually got her mouth full of other things.
