  • How will Flooring Porter get on at Cheltenham 22 with the prelims and full crowd next time there?

It's a legitimate question, but the experience of going to Cheltenham will have done him good, and I suspect he'll have 2-3 opportunities to face crowds before the festival.

      • Back from yesterday's racing. The two horses that really impressed were Third Time Lucki who was brilliant first time jumping and won as he liked but the race was weak and he was really well in at the weights. He looks an Arkle horse but may find a couple too good . The other horse that took my eye with a view to March was Guard Your Dreams. He travelled well into the race and jumped clean and stayed on tenaciously up the hill carrying a big weight. He ran very well in all the big handicap hurdles last season and his Cheltenham record is really decent. He's still a relatively light raced horse and is improving all the time. I'd expect him to go up the ratings again and he could find himself close to 150 which will mean he'll probably need to go up in class now. He looks every inch a Stayers type to me and won't need to improve much more to be in the mix . Connections were thinking of sending him chasing this season but they may have to have a re think after yesterday and perhaps hold him back for at least one more year and give him a shout at a very open looking Stayers race.

        • Lunar Display, 3rd to Mrs Milner at Limerick receiving 4lbs, franked the form yesterday when winning nicely at Wexford.

Beating Queens Brook (3rd in the 2020 Champion Bumper) in the process. A couple of people have said it already that Gordon's horses are needing their first run.
Good boost to Mrs Milner's form nonetheless.

            • Has anyone seen Guard Your Dreams priced up for the Stayers anywhere?? Bookies have not been very proactive at all this season. Very poor .

Totally forgot about this one, think I backed him last year after they said they weren't heading to Cheltenham...

                  • Guard Your Dreams up to 145. Doesn't completely rule him out of handicaps but also means he doesn't need too much improvement to be dangerous in a Stayers Hurdle in what looks a fairly open year.

Surely you’d be wanting 100-1 though.
what price would you take ??

                        Proschema too

Could easily be an improver stepping up in trip

I'm hoping Dan will run him and use it to decide between a tilt at the stayers if he goes close or a pertemps plot if he's clearly not at that level

Minimum ! outclassed a field that was a fair grade drop from what he'd been running in(Twister has a fair record with top weights in such circumstances for those who analyse systems). Stayers might be open enough but you still need to be running to 160 to get on the podium.

5 Stayers winners between 146 and 158 in the last 9 seasons. He wouldn't have to improve that much. He's currently identical level (at same time of year) to NTD's Wholestone who was placed in the race. I'm hoping he'll follow the same path......... Newbury, Relkeel, Cleeve. We can all dream.

I've taken 66's EW . Bigger would be nice but I'm not greedy.

                              • Whilst I don't have Guard Your Dreams on my mind for this, it's worth remembering that Flooring Porter started his season from a lower base last time, and the race has had plenty more winners over the years too that have that kind of profile. If you're so minded, as Lobos is, the bet's fair enough at a big price.

Why I'm not too enthusiastic is because I think it may end up being a much better/deeper race this year with Klassical Dream, Thyme Hill, Buzz, and perhaps even Abacadabras added to the mix of last seasons horses . Time will tell whether Lobos is making a smart bet or not because it'll be judged on the result. But as part of a portfolio, in a race that looks open right now, I don't mind the bet at all.
