Problem I personally would have with that is what performance he’s going to put in on the day.
One we know he’s capable of or one like that today.
Im on Champ at big odds and would be quiet happy to have KD as a cover, but not sure 5 after watching that today appeals to be honest.

        • If you look at the race around Royal K. Say she improved 5-10 pounds for the ground and step in trip. She may have run 155-160.
so KD has clearly not run anywhere near his best.
It would put you off for chelt but if he brings his best he’s in the top 3, 5-1 now probably about right.

what about Home By The Lee though, not sure what to make of that??

          • Couldn't back Royal Kahala for anything until I know what ground she's likely to encounter, anything better than 'soft' and I won't be bothering.

            • The second today got beat 20 lengths by darver star the time before

              awful race

Royal kahala has likely only needed to run to 140-145 to win

shes beaten a mid to low 140s chaser by a couple of lengths getting 4lb

Even on soft, she's not winning a Stayers Hurdle...and I have backed her

Was he asked? Probably a bit until he knew it was a waste of time I would say.
However one looks at it it’s hard to disagree with PT that it’s disappointing, being beaten that far out after travelling well until that point.
Giving the winner 11lbs........is it not level weights at the festival ?

By my reckoning, at level weights, KD virtually dead heats with RK and gets beat by HBTL.
I would say that’s disappointing as the jockey said.

                    • It wouldn't be level weights at the festival either as Royal Kahala is a mare.

Although I wouldn't be taking that race as a genuine formline for KD anyway!

Nor would I, but it’s a performance he’s just put in.
If one has already backed him, then just have to hope he don’t do that next time.
If one has not backed him, to me it’s all about his price to what sort of performance he will put in in March.

                        • I'd be more concerned he's not going to turn up at all in March to be honest. Always been a bit fragile hasn't he. Would be a NRNB play now imo. Although this was always my point on him and why I've never backed him to be fair...

I don't think Champ was an outrageously good find @ 7/4 but he was close! Kevloaf was right yesterday though, the result didn't make it a better bet, but it's gone now so hopefully a few got on. There have been some outrageously good prices in there though. Energumene @ 5/6 to place in a QMCC 3 weeks ago was just mega. Obviously in hindsight after last Saturday that now looks amazing, but it was good beforehand too. Obviously with this race 12+ runners are likely but the value of those bets goes through the roof in races likely to have less than 8 runners. The QMCC might have 6/7 runners because the top two will scare most away, so you're getting 3 places about a 170's horse at nearly even money.
