as you quite rightly point out duffle coat is already rated 143 by the Irish handicapper. Davy Russell rides Saturday.
I'm expecting a run Saturday which would probably see duffle coat tried in grade 1 company over Xmas, or maybe the relkeel in New year.
2 wins in those races and duffle coat is single figures for the stayers.

Bad enough for 5yos in Pertemps but the last 5yo winner of the Stayers was 1951

All to do though int it ?

      PS,
Have you thanked Spectre for his detailed response to your comments the other day ?
Looked to me like he spent some time on it.
Thanked him? I felt a response would have just been seen as me not understanding his methods. However I was merely pointing out it wasn't as easy as was suggested. As you point out Spectre took a bit of time to detail just how hard it actually is and how much work he puts in, bordering on obsession I believe were his words.

        Fair enough.

Thanking was probably the wrong word.
        Acknowledgement would've been better.

Anyway, is your namesake going to win today, as I've backed him ?

Probably a bit late but no.
          Duffle coat will tomorrow though

A confident looking bit of placing IMO.
She'll be close to top weight.
Patrick just put her up as his nap. for SAT

….100-1 with Sky to win & Stayers.

            • Commander of Fleet finally coming back to the form of the AB a few years ago. Could be an outsider here with the ratings increase after this.

Burning Victory didn't look like she stayed

              • Yeh I don't think she stayed when asked she had nothing left but as usual with her hurdling she losses so much momentum at a lot of them and bunny hopped a few.
Couldn't have her for any Chelt race the way she hurdles, dropping back will only expose it even more.

She is a high quality stayer on the Flat.

Buzz outstayed her over 2M2F, getting weight, and she would get the Mares allowance in Group races.

There are plenty of good 2M Cup races, or even big handicaps like the Ebor, that she would be very competitive in.

She is wasted trying hurdles IMHO.

My thoughts entirely which is the reason I've not touched her for the Festival. She will win much more more money on the flat.......end of.

She was never traveling today, always behind the bridle, she’s never gonna be a natural over obstacles to put it mildly but I think she hurdled better today than she has done previously.

Todays race conditions didn’t suit at all with the mess of a start & a big field, she needs more daylight for her jumping like Paul gave her in the Triumph, I’m definitely disappointed but not giving up on her for the Mares races just yet! She was giving an educational ride today & I’ll reserve full judgment after her next appointment!

I'm all over this, I fancied it from the start of the season, I've decided to take the 33s with Hills and stick with it, I had originally backed it at 50/1 and then Cashed out but looks like come March he could be back to his best!

Hopefully though Gordon has since mentioned he is going to try to qualify him for the Pertemps now. But surely he is too high in the ratings now and a 6th place finish won't see his rating go down much. Why not send him to the Stayers, he'll be 8 in March so in his prime years

….a few have mentioned Commander of Fleet for this.

                            CoF has an entry for the Christmas Hurdle & Sky offer;

CoF to win Christmas Hurdle & Stayers @ 100-1

                            • Ooooo - think il have some of that as cover.

(Already have him for the Pertemps)

only two realistic festival targets (if he travels)

if he wins the Christmas Hurdle - covered for both
if he bombs - more likely to go pertemps
if he does OK. Likely to remain a decent price and can reassess

The issue's with COF in the Pertemps are that he still hasn't qualified one and 2 that he is now rated 152 in Ireland, add on UK tax he'll be mid 150s. In the last 12 years only Sire Du Berlais has won the race off a rating over 148 (his second win off 152).

Unless Gordon some how gets his rating to drop significantly by Cheltenham and remember he still has to finish at least in the top 6 of a race where his mark will most likely not change, he will need to race another two times on top to lower it by any good amount. Which in the end isn't great for a horse that was not long off injured for a long time.

So hopefully he just gives up on the Pertemps and aims him at the Stayers
