  • Delighted that My Drogo and Bob Olinger are set to clash this soon.

I'll be proved right, and My Drogo will get out classed and end up targetting Aintree.

    My Drogo?!

    • You think Bob Olinger would come over for a ?13,000 race in the UK Kev, with all the costings coming over involved?

Would love it to see him come over of course, but the only ‘big bun’ of the Irish we’ve seen on English shores this season is A Plus Tard with a tidy six figure sum up for grabs.

      Let’s hope he does.

The Champion Chaser is probably worthy of being called a big gun?

Not many options in Ireland that I can see either (not a long look) but a 7k euro beginners chase isn't mouth watering either?

To be honest, I don't think the prize money for novice chases this side of Christmas have any impact whatsoever on a genuine G1 horse.

        • I did, in all honesty, completely forget all about Chacun.

Possibly to do with the fact that from 3 out, he fell out out of the right hand side of my tv.

Not sure exactly, but I think Tingle paid out just short of 6 figures.

So let’s hope Bob O arrives on the boat, but I’d be sceptical for the aforementioned prize money.

            Kev was referring to PTKO…

            • Worth noting HDB has a line on My Drogo through Gin On Lime, who was going to beat by him, but they will know how far Bob would beat her by as well I suspect. I reckon if they come over it's because they know they have his measure comfortably.

True, but a two horse race with a farcical finish ain't much of a line imo

True, but I think My Drogo was going to beat her some distance without being factual because of what happened but he was all over her jumping the second last joking aside he looked like comfortably beating her imo.

Post race though HDB reckoned something was amiss with GOL, which looked obvious with her jumping being a bit wayward.

                  • Wasn't aware Bob has to give Drogo 5lbs on Saturday. It won't be an easy task. Drogo jumped better than Bob did on their debuts (until he fell of course). If Bob can come out on top then he'll surely go odds on for this.

Ballyadam in the International field might mean it’s more likely….

Yeah UK chases are the same as hurdles and a 5lbs weight rise next time if winning on debut I think is how it works here, someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Bob did carry 12st on debut though so is 7lbs lighter than that as another angle to look at. I mentioned this last year that the Irish novices carry heavier weights prior to coming to Cheltenham, not sure how much it impacts but surely has to be a plus for the Irish.

                        • I also didn't realise that Bob had to give MD 5lbs. I still think that the previous race with GOL would have given HDB some line to Bob (albeit with the caveats mentioned of 2 runner race and GOL not running to form), but not convinced it would give enough to know whether Bob can give MD 5lbs. I therefore retract my statement that they may only come over if the they know they've got MD's measure

I think he will come over still. Run at the weekend, miss the Xmas heavy ground at Limerick and then run in the Grade 3 Envoi Allen did mid Jan at Punchestown and rest up for the festival after that.

Beating My Drogo regardless of the Grade of the race sets him up nicely imo for the Marsh in March with course and distance form over fences. Has to beat him of course this weekend which gives plenty of recovery time if it’s a tough race.

Interesting theory re the Irish Novices carrying huge weights prior to Cheltenham. It must feel like a featherweight dropping down to 11-04 in March and give them some sort of 'advantage'. Perhaps that's why they don't travel over before. Never thought of it that way. Cheers Craigy.

Yeah it was when I was looking at Shishkin and Energumenes form etc going into the Arkle when I noticed the difference in weights carried prior to March. It seems the same in the hurdles races as well. I wasn’t sure how much people looked at it or were aware of it and I was being stupid. Sure it was the stupid questions thread or general chat I mentioned it in.
