  • Gex.

Just won a grade 2 hurdle at Auteuil, against reasonable types, although the jockey jumped off the FAV at the first.

He's a novice over fences and they mentioned after that they may go chasing in the spring with him, over here.
Probably not quite good enough overall, but would be an interesting runner for some.
If priced he should be around 33-1 IMO

    edit.
Interview after with Reveley seemed to suggest they may stay in France.
    So ignore.

    • Boothill 66/1

It seems connections have finally realised () he is by Presenting and have decided on a step up in trip for his chase debut, entered up at Exeter over 2m3f on Friday, after a pipe opener in a listed handicap hurdle.

He looked to show a bit of class on his hurdles debut when scooting clear over 2m at Taunton, before sustaining an injury that kept him out for the rest of the season. He looked a chaser then, and he looked one on his seasonal debut in the handicap hurdle. He was also very keen in that most recent run, but he stuck at it well to finish 3rd behind Soaring Glory, although was one of three turning for home that looked like they could win it.

His p2p form is a little hit and miss, however he at least has some experience of jumping a fence from them two performance, and finished 2nd twice during them, so not without some hope.

I was scrolling through the Marsh market, and a lot of what I see will not be turning up in the race:

Appreciate It - Looks Arkle bound
Klassical Dream - Staying over hurdles
Bravemansgame - Likely BANC (RSA) bound, could still come here, but not currently likely to happen
Ferny Hollow - Has entries along with Appreciate It, so will be interesting to see if he is declared
Galopin Des Champs - BANC looking most likely
Beacon Edge - Possibly here but unlikely as looks like needing further
Gaillard Du Mesnil - Again, possibly here, but looked like needing further during his novice hurdle season
Dusart - Not even sure if going over fences, has had a hurdles entry as well as a chase entry

In behind these you have some OK horses from Ireland, who are generally much more exposed. Boothill has a fair amount of unraced potential, especially over a fence and could still wind up to be anything, including being useless of course But I'm hoping that isn't the case!

Now, I'm not saying he's going to be the level of Bob Olinger, in fact I struggle to see any horse being that level, but I can see him challenging something like My Drogo and he is an 8/1 shot for the Marsh. I just think the 66/1 for Boothill is more than fair value as an E/W play at this stage.

      • I had him down as an Arkle horse. I am not sure I like him enough to back him for both. The place part could look huge on the day though. Has the trainer said much about trip?

Yeah, I imagine many might have thought he was a Arkle horse, because of his performance at Taunton over hurdles but he's bred to get plenty further as well. Not seen much from the trainer. The danger could be he ends up a handicap horse as well, given he is rated 135 over hurdles, but I think he'll be a fair bit better over a fence, and over further than 2m.

I’ve not seen a target mentioned but also thought Arkle (if he’s as good as the trainer hopes) - I didn’t read too much into starting at 2m3f as all previous entries were for 2m & think it’s just a case of finding a race on suitable ground

Well that went worse than bad. Maybe the 2m trip is correct after all as he didn't seem to see out the 2m3f and it wasn't as if he made many errors, couple of novicey ones maybe, but that was about it.

My bad. On to the next one

No shame in getting 66/1 shots wrong CoD, they're not the ones that kill you, it's when we get wedded to shorties that go wrong we get hurt....

He's a horse I was very sweet on last year for the supreme before his injury and one I was looking forward to over fences, but there's no real excuse for today should have been fit enough jumped fine just not as good as I hoped he'd be.

                      • McNeill just tweeted that Bob is entered at Cheltenham on Saturday, I assume My Drogo is the same race, imagine they both turned up!
