Does Willie usually call a horse a back-up that is under a different owner? I always thought he usually would say something along the lines of 'he'll go with a fair chance' and not usually this blunt

They were his words, not mine. He literally said 'back-up'.

Not sure how I've read too much into it? Historically I just don't remember him calling a horse a 'back-up' that's all.

You're taking it that Willie saying "back-up" means he's worse than Facile Vega? Would that even be news, I don't think anyone can dispute that really on what we've seen. The back up may be better by the end of the Wednesday though.



Reading between the lines from Willie, as you well know, is already an area than can have people 'reading too much into', and this is just another level for me.

Yeah, basically. Truthfully I'm trying to justify a way of not backing Redemption Day, as I feel I'm already at a staking point for this race that I don't want to exceed.

In reality I'm hoping Mercurey doesn't run, and the price holds on Redemption Day so I can have an E/W bet to nothing As Patrick has been making the right noises about him, tbf!

IMO yes. He doesn't know what it takes to train the winner of the race so I'm not sure Id trust him entirely picking one out for it.

Suggests RR is Milton's one for Cheltenham.
