  • The Mediator's been given a 127rpr for his Down Royal victory.

Wonder what American Mike's going to get after carrying 7lb more and taking 2 seconds less a day later.

Going was soft on both days. Don't know if it had dried out at all or was similar for both races.

Didnt know the times on the bumpers but looked to me like they were both slowly ran so a pretty impressive time from American Mike carrying 7lb more.

I was there both days, the rain was so bad on Thursday night/Friday morning that I don't think the drier weather on Saturday could have made much difference to the ground. Thought I heard Bryony say it was tacky or sticky ground somewhere after her win on Frodon.

        • I'll put this up here even though in all likelihood it won't become the truth but my neighbours good friends with Gordie and he's told him he thinks American Mike isn't far off Envoi Allen levels.

          • When are we likely to see the rating for saturday? I would say its gotta be around 130, 131?

Jeez, it’s a battle keeping an account for a few weeks…

Yeah you'd think 130 which in theory would have him placing at worst in March, won't face anything of Willie's in the Navan listed bumper in December but would like to see something upsides and make Jamie push the button if only briefly as that'll be the last time we'll see him until the festival and it'll be a real tease having to wait until March to see how good he could be!

The Mediator downgraded to 121 from original 127

                          Not ideal for credibility

I've seen it done a few times before, within 24 hours of an original rating.

Feels like a peer assessment of the numbers, or a second check by the original poster.

Happened at the same time as Saturdays Bumper number came out, so I think the comparative assessment was done then and the downgrade made.

Yep, and fair enough for them to do this.

You'd just be concerned how the original rating was assessed, and what would have happened had their been no comparative race the next day.
I'm often suspicious of rating systems, especially the ones that work back from the winning horse. If they get that wrong then the others are probably all wrong also.
I assume it's basically based on timings, weight carried and ground, with a touch of human instinct, but as we know there are many other factors involved.

6lbs is the biggest adjustment I've seen them do
