  • Have been thinking about The Big Doyen for a while now

I was at Punchestown when he hacked up and immediately thought this was something special

Admittedly the form of that race hasn't worked out. Then we moved on to Leopardstown where he basically was never a contender

I suppose I find it hard to completely write off what I saw in Punchestown. Was something amiss at Lep ? Did we ever hear more?

Could TBD recover and be a massive each way price at 40/1 + or am I clutching at straws here?

I personally thought he was found out, probably bot his true running but i doubt hell get closer, mullins and elliot will have 2-3 above him each id imagine..maybe one for the day with more places if you fancied it

        • 2.34/1 for Sandor Clegane today doubled with Facile Vega

          With Boyle.

If Music Drive does win, I'll be having another bet on Redemption Day.

He drifted massively on the day. Made me think he wasn’t in the finest knick. I too won’t be writing him off, but won’t be putting more down. Let the 20/1 ride.

Good advice thanks - yes indeed will wait for the extra places on the day - if Kevloaf's 100/1 is available (or even 50/1) with extra places will be hard to resist each way .

I suppose it is hard to reconcile the 100/1 with the horse we saw at Punchestown but Bet365 may well be right

              • As a backer of redemption day, very happy to see that. Gordon Elliot was pretty confident on music drive before he faced redemption day and was brushed aside so easily. Form looking strong and Patrick was right to mention redemption every time someone asked him about facile

                • Big old boost for Redemption Day.

                  I'm going in again.

An absolutely brilliant ew bet nrnb at 6/1.

3 horses in the bumper better than him? No chance.

As for Redemption Day who knows whether he is anything more than a bridle horse? It was as if Mullins was at pains to do no more than hold him together on debut. American Mike has been very similar. You know that Facile Vega can travel on the bridle, and find plenty off it.
I think these days I could get a 1/10 shot beat. That look O'Neill had behind was a bit strange, and clearly wasn't a look of confidence. I think the favourite has probably run something like 15 lengths below his previous form. From a distance he looks quite sparely made, and perhaps what Walsh was suggesting was correct? The very easy to back winner took advantage, but I would be surprised if he is is much above average. Bookmakers no doubt delighted.

Surely if thats a form boost for Redemption Day. Then it's even more of a boost for Facile? Sandor was beaten much further by FV.

That was my first thought. There’s been a length between them at the line and vega won by lengths hard held. Don’t get me wrong I think redemption day is a cracking ew bet but vegas form looks even stronger for me based on that

                            No argument really.

Just one is odds on and the other 6/1

It's a much bigger form boost for Facile Vega, you're right.

FV beaten today's runner up by 12L, even after he slowed right down in the last furlong, when clear.

                              R.Day beat today's winner by 4L.

Today's winner gets 4lb from the runner up and beats him a length or so.

At the weights Sandor finishes around 2L in front today if they run off levels.

That makes FV on collateral form around 10 lengths ahead of Redemption Day even if slowing down in the last furlong.

You can try and see it the other way if you've backed RD.

Mercurey is the pick on RPRs by a long way as Willie's Number 2 if they wanted to run him as a 4yo with a 4lb weight allowance

He'd be 10lb ahead of Redemption Day on their respective debuts. (and only 4lb behind Facile Vega)

Though that's up in the air, that he runs.

Entries on Tuesday will give us plenty more info to go on, re those behind the front two in the market, and who could be worthy of some thought.
