      1hour 16 mins into it.
I just watched the interview with Paul Townend again and I have to wonder if they will have a crack at The Champion Hurdle with Appreciate It given his lack of entries in beginners chases over the festive season - sorry wrong thread

      • American Mike given the highest RPR awarded to a winner of the race at the weekend in the last 10 runnings (didn’t go back further, not sure how long the race has been around for). 2lbs higher than both envoi & sir g got for their wins.

I know the RPR's are based on all sorts of information, and I do use them a lot, but American Mike probably ran in one of, if not, weakest renewal of the race, which made his performance look a helluva lot more impressive. I'm on at decent prices, so he's definitely the one I want to win the bumper, but unlike Sir Gerhard last season, he's yet to beat anything of note. That said, of course, he can only beat what's in front of him. Unfortunately for us punters we probably now won't see American Mike until the festival, should he go down the same route as Sir Gerhard, which he has done so far, so we won't actually know what he's capable of achieving, when asked a question, until the day.

Yeah I feel he's completely undercooked when it comes to a battle so to speak.
I wanna see him dig deep to win rather than to win at a canter to a bunch of trees.
Obviously the potential is there but I'd have like to have seen a challenger.

Probably based on the time id guess? Even allowing for the lack of obstacles was a good time compared to the 2 maidens previously on the card

Simon Rowlands got some interesting time figures for AM in his latest blog
”American Mike may have been beating up second-raters at best on Saturday, but he beat them up good and proper, conceding weight, running a fast time and appearing to have plenty in the locker.
His 146 rating is better than Fayonagh (133), Relegate (137) and Sir Gerhard (143) among Cheltenham Champion Bumper winners in the last five years, and only just behind Ferny Hollow (147) and Envoi Allen (150). Those ratings are at a level which corresponds with what horses can be expected to do as hurdlers in the next 12 months, unlike some alternatives”

Yeah I’m not a stopwatch nerd or anything but I was very happy when I saw the time he done Saturday after checking to see that the 2 hurdles previously on the card did indeed appear to be truly enough run

                  • I see that Grivei is entered in the same race as Facile Vega next Wednesday, I remember he was mentioned as one to watch before the season?

                    • Yes Grivei is on my watchlist too after picking up some positive comments. I'm not sure where he is in the pecking order though.

I’d check out Embassy Gardens the day after too. Very nicely bred out of a mare Willie used to train. They paid a decent amount for him as a store. Don’t let the 2m4f distance put you off as Willie has won the same race with his festival runners in the past.

Yeah as soon as he was declared and Patrick jocked up I went to look for a price for him. There was nothing about at the time though.
Appreciate It and Carefully Selected both ran in that race before coming second in the bumper

Looby said he'd been waiting to see where he ended up. Said he's a lovely horse to look at also.
