  • Gordon Elliott, trainer of Tiger Roll (11st 4lb)
“He is in very good form at home. We will see how Cheltenham goes but he has got a nice weight so the Grand National could be on the agenda. The ground was too soft the last day for him and he is coming to himself at home. To have a horse like him is a dream come true but to win two Grand Nationals with him has just been awesome and I’m very lucky to have him. I do think there is still a bit more in him and we are certainly not finished yet.”

Off topic so apologies but there appears such a disconnect between trainer and owner…

    • Are people taking the Prengarde comments a little too literally?

Didn't he call Shady Operator a good back up?

That's hardly worth blowing your beans on.

"A good sub".... if they can't get a run into Prengarde?

Premature to get excited about one of two "good subs" IMO.

      • All running scared from the Tiger’s swansong

        • I don't think Enda is particularly arsed about it.

I'm just surprised that's all... don't get me wrong, I missed the huge gamble on Prengarde so does me no harm at all if they hold off a year...

Just seems like chit shatting though from the trainer to me... as if he can't find ANY race for Prengarde? Doesn't add up.

          • Agree with Charlie. No point looking at anything other than Tiger . He'll go off short and do what we all want him to do. It's going to happen. The roof IS coming off.

The Irish racing calendar is very small, and we know he isn’t running this weekend.

Weds/Thursday don’t have any races he could run in, next midweek.

So if he has to run to be ready for Cheltenham then we are looking at him getting a run next weekend 26th/27th Feb, two-and-a-half weeks before the Cross Country.

I haven’t checked that weekends races yet, but I think there’s just that narrow window in time, for the possibility of him getting a run, recovering, and peaking for the X-C.

So we will know next Tuesday if he is entered next weekend.

Hopefully for those looking for that run, since Enda mentioned him needing one, will see an entry for him next Tuesday.

I personally don't buy him needing a run though.

If he needed a run, he'd have run this weekend?

                Something doesn't seem logical.

Maybe he'll find a prep race, maybe they just want a price

Didn’t Enda say when he got him he wouldn’t need to run him as he’d been on the go for a while in France? Or am I making that up?

                  • Not sure why he would but he obviously could just be lying about it however, the quote says he 'definitely' won't go to Cheltenham without a prep. I'm inclined to take that part genuinely. Surprised if they can't find a race for him anywhere beforehand though. Often prep over hurdles don't they.
Shame there's not a Betfair market for this one.

Just offering the small Irish Racing Calendar as a thought, re it being tricky to find a race until 26/27 Feb at earliest.

No financial interest in the race personally - but I love to see as many good horses running as possible.

That's what I pay to go for, the best v the best.

                      Bring it on..

If Bolger had just said 'needs a run' and left it there I'd agree and call it BS, but he's definitively stated he won't go without a prep which I thought was quite strong, and he's then provided context re age, when he last raced, fitness and other stable runners in the race. Bolger also said on January 25th that 'he’s going to take a run because he hasn’t run since November. Then he had to travel, settle in and acclimatise' - nearly a month on and we still haven't seen him, so I'd be included to think he does need a run.
I think he's telling (or perhaps selling ) a story that makes sense, but I'm always mindful that Bolger has banks at home that he can work horses on and get them fit, so perhaps he is just lying

                        • Has anyone heard any update on which race Mortal is likely to go for? I don't think he was mentioned in the Gordon Elliott stable tour earlier this week.

It was reported he schooled over the X country course at the end of January but I haven't heard anything since

                          • Yeha fair enough... I suppose my doubt comes from the surprise as I don't see what they're faffing about waiting for really but doesn't matter really.

Would rather he did run but a Tiger Roll win in the race more likely without and that'll be just swell.

                              Sheerin wouldn’t of asked GE.

I can’t see why they’d run him over the course earlier in the season and take him over last month for a school with TR to then not run him in this.
