Has Energumene beaten anything that you think would have worried Shishkin though?
I'm not debating that Energumene can't win the race or beat Shishkin, but I am certain Shishkin is right to be shorter.
There isn’t much related form to go on. These things a fraught with danger I fully accept but Captain G provides some point of reference both sides of the pond. For me he settled and jumped better yesterday than he has before and was presumably race fit and was beaten almost as far by Grean as by Ener. There is very little love for Grean on here and Ener is many peoples love child. I agree with Kev NEITHER horse should be judged on what they have beat and it feels like a lack of impartiality to beat one with a stick for it while the other gets a free pass.
I hope they both arrive 100% and both run their race and Its an irrelevance to me who is favourite right now like it’s some sort of badge of honour. I would have thought The only people that should want Ener to be fav should be folks that haven’t yet backed Shishkin???
Shishkin being that short is as much down to the book itself than form surely? As soon as he pissed the arkle a wall of money would have hit for this. The bookies are probably still trying to balance the book even with him so far unseen....
Have to say watching it back im more impressed than I was live
Energumene and notebook went at it for most of the race
Notebook isn't a great horse but he's a good yardstick and an excellent jumper, Energumene has completely burnt him off and he's ended up barely finishing the race
Thats what Un De Sceaux used to do to horses
His run style is very reminiscent of the iron horse UDS
2nd is rated 157, beaten 8 and a half lengths receiving 8 pounds.
3rd is rated 155, beaten 10 lengths receiving 8 pounds.
Cashback rated 156 and beaten 18 lengths receiving 8 pounds.
Notebook tried to go with him and was smashed out of sight for trying.
His race was run incredibly inefficiently. From the 4th to the 8th, he ran about 20 lengths quicker than Concertista and paid for it towards the end. The others ran more efficiently and got nowhere near him.
It was a fairly big statement for the CC and was a much better performance than Greaneteen put out this weekend.
Shiahkin still needs to prove he is well but if they are both in top form at Cheltenham and run their race, it's going to be some clash.
I would have them pretty much the same value and not Shishkin significantly shorter. Just the health situation should be enough to do that.
Notebook is the highest rated horse that either have faced and Energumene killed him by putting him to the sword out front.
Both could win and I'm a fan of both but Shishkin being 6/4 for beating nothing and not being healthy isn't right
WTL you’re talking as if Shishkin is a fragile horse and has missed plenty racing. Take a deep breathe and relax.
He’s missed this weekends assignment rightly or wrongly, through a bad scope (not an injury as such) and now he should be second fav because of it
They both have very similar levels of form through captain Guinness but Shishkin edges it imo for the course form he has. Connections etc etc he was always going to be shorter surely you know that?!
I’ve backed both and just hope they both make it there firing on the day to find out who is number 1.

What i would say is that shiskin was given a wind op because he scoped badly
And now its happened again
That has to be a concern going forward
I do agree on the course form, that is the concern for energumene just as it was for chacun last season

I’m not 100% sure if he’s had to have another one, I think hendo chucked that out there without thinking. Almost as if to prove pulling him was the right thing to do.
Is there a way to find out does anyone know?
If he did, then, it may be a concern that’s hes had to have it twice before coming back for the season but we won’t know how it’s affected him until he runs.
Ok First Flow may not be good enough to win a champion chase but he's a remarkable horse who keeps winning races despite his jumping. Soft/heavy at Cheltenham would make him interesting at e/w as he would be a good price unless the race cuts up.
