When has Mullins ever really ducked a challenge, and not been bold ?

It's only because he has so much ammunition and options that they are sometimes split.

Apart from Quevega vs Big Bucks I can't think of any other occasions, and even that was a difficult one as once she'd won 2 or 3 it would have been a tough ask to go up against Big Bucks on her first run of the season. And Ruby Walsh would have been a big factor in this also.
And Big Bucks could always have come over to Punchestown for the grade 1 against the boys over 3 miles she won 4 times (should have been 5 ) if he wanted.

With regards CPS, this is a common thing for Mullins to do - i.e favour his older horses with multiple grade 1's under their belts.
He said similar about Hurricane Fly vs Faugheen.
    There are other examples.
It's part sentiment and part that they're proven performers.
Although the emphasis in this situation regards CPS v Energumene was surprising, I'll admit.
It's a perception thing for me. You mentioned your namesake. I think in the most recent years is when he's had the ammunition that a bottleneck inevitably will happen and they have to clash. But we're talking about stable-mates in that regards when you want to see top horses clash but are kept apart. That was normal behaviour.

So for me, his normal behaviour, it seems to me is he wants to afford his alphas the protection. Perhaps it's a lazy assumption on my part but I still think he'll take the easier route. He mentions, he'll do what's best for the horse which many will assume relates to trip and conditions. But not always??

    • Who does Paul ride here if Willie's supposed plan is to send GDC to the turner's?

Hard to make a case for stepping Gaillard Du Mesnil up in trip to 3m when he's never raced at that, let alone won. Especially when he's dropping supposedly GDC down in trip having won over 3m.
Surely Paul would like a ride here.

My guess would be Capodanno, but I'm very much expecting him to be on GDC.

Ditto - with big question marks over jungle boogie going aswell.

                Oh yeah of course!

Really no idea then. Struggle to see him on GDM too, can't really see him stepping Jungle Boogie up here either, anything else would go off double figures I suspect.

I really hope so. The only GDC Marsh I've got is in a double with Statler for the RSA.

                        • Clutching at straws here possibly but PP/BF have pushed GDC out very marginally for the Turners & he’s contracting slightly for the RSA on the exchange…

                          • Never know, if it’s properly on the good side of soft, Willie might think it will put a bit more strain on Galopins jumping in the Turners. Would not be surprised to see him in the RSA.

There does seem to be a small move about the RSA on the machine this morning. Last matched at 4.1. Was as big as 8's earlier in the week.

Looks like last price matched 9/4, although tough to read on my mobile.

I think GDC goes RSA which would surely
put saint sam, or jungle boogie into the turners. Both available at large prices in the machine. Possibly Capo but he has already been out in his place by Bob last time.

GDC’s participation all seems to hang off Willies comments ‘I haven’t talked to Paul about it yet, he seems to like the 20f trip - I’d be happy with that’ (sic).
Was anything further said? Given Willies propensity to muse I always thought that comment was zero commitment as I’m sure he would also ‘be happy’ with 24f and would have said so if asked.

Edit - apologies misread betfair, last price matched 4.0. Same points apply though.
