  • I thought it was a cracking performance, giving chunks of weight away and easily could have lost with people using the weight excuse. Looks like the 3 that finished ran to form and PN yard has been in shocking form lately. Jumped fairly tidy throughout the race and didn’t really even brush the top of any of them.

GDC will need to be at the top of his game as both can certainly jump. I favour GDC but certainly think it will be close

    • I just re-watched Bravemansgame from the weekend, and decided I could watch him jump all day. I just absolutely love the way he pings his fences when he gets it bang on, which, in fairness, is most of the time. Whether he has the engine to go with GDC is another thing altogether, but he's a fantastic chaser, all the same.

In comparison, and probably an unpopular opinion, but I too am on Ahoy Senor, and his jumping is what I'd expect from a novice and can see why they may decide to wait until Aintree. He just looks extremely raw and, IMO, he'll get eaten alive by Bravemansgame again, let alone GDC being in the race aswell.

Yes a lovely chaser, you'd love to see him in a Hennessy....

Bravemansgame is an an almost certainty for the King George next season with the opposition he will face if he turns up

I feel bound to raise the spectre of Topofthegame every time I see this kind of talk.

I'm thinking the same thing, I don't have him covered at chelts this year so iv just had a little dabble on a Skybet special. BMG to win the 22 RSA + King George and the 23 Gold Cup 66/1. Probably not the best odds I'm not even sure how I'd work it out but If he wins the RSA he will be fave for the other two races.
Just a fun bet with 3 races hes likely to go for.

Agree always a chance the horse doesn't make it but Topofthegame has always had issues throughout his career and is a fragile horse. Bravemansgame has been sound so far and very robust.

If he turns up he'll be very hard to beat in the King George

Hmm winning the 2023 GC is a completely different matter haha

He's 4/1 for this at the moment. You'd be making him like 2/1 for the KG and then 7/2 for the GC...

It's probably not as bad as it sounds tbh.

                    • Been looking at the recent history of this race and how things panned out in the future. I have to say on reflection, if I had a classy novice with enough speed to win over mid-range trip as a novice but that I thought could be a gold cup horse in the future, I wouldn’t be going for this race. Not looking to fire people up, just my opinion based on what’s happened in the recent past that’s all. I think since the middle distance novice has come in (and even the 2m5 novice hcap before it was binned) that looks a sounder route based on future & longevity:

                      2012 - Bobs Worth.

Had won the spud race & went on to win a GC. Champion.

                      2013 - Lord Windermere.

Didn’t do much before the RSA & was winless the following year until popping up to win the GC as a 20/1 poke! Never won another race after.

                      2014 - O’Faolains Boy.

Ran ok in spud race (4th) before winning RSA. Missed whole of next season & only won a graduation chase after.

                      2015 - Don Poli.

Won the Pipe off 143 before winning RSA as 6yo - rare. Finished 3rd in his only GC the following season.

                      2016 - Blaklion.

Pulled up in spud race. Never ran in a GC.

                      2017 - Might Bite.

Did nothing over hurdles. Won King George & 2nd in GC year after RSA. Pulled up in next GC. Mad bastard of a horse!

                      2018 - Presenting Percy.

Won Pertemps off 146 before hacking up in RSA. 8th as fav in following years GC after 1 hurdles prep run. Fell the year after. Sad end.

                      2019 - Topofthegame.

2nd in Coral Cup off 150. Won RSA before 2nd to Lostintranslation (who’d finished 2nd in JLT) at Aintree. Out with leg since.

                      2020 - Champ.

2nd in Ballymore before nailing Minella Indo on line in RSA. Pulled up in GC & now back over hurdles.

                      2021 - Monkfish.

Won spud race, scraped home in RSA having looked invincible (and not short of speed) over shorter before beaten at Punch over 3m. Out up to this point with a leg.

                      • But Splinter, the Turners hasn't even produced a single horse that has ever won a Gold Cup has it ??

Surely for balance - you'd need to do a similar thing for the Turner's ??
                          And include placed horses.

I see 2 Gold cup winners and 2 placed from 10 chances.
And 3 injured out for the season
And 2 who were trained by pissy pants trainers, who wouldn't/couldn't tun them all season.
                          I'd say it's quite a successful route.

It's the top route in my book and always will be.

Both Bob Ollinger and GDC will end up in next year's Ryanair I expect. How bloody disappointing would that be !! Boring. Vautour all over again.

Maybe Bravemansgame is the bet for 2023......never thought I'd be saying that.
