Energumene would have been expected to win that race pretty much however it was run. He is so much better than the opposition that it neither enhances or diminishes his claim, and therefore it makes no sense to mark up the performance because there is no basis to do so other than an individuals opinion of doing so.
    I think it's basic science.
If something is more efficient then it is going to perform more efficiently

If inefficiency beats efficiency then the inefficient one is very probably going to be even better if more efficient.

i before e except after c, except some words,
so why have the phrase mother ?

    • Yes I understand that guys, but how does Energumene get 173 for it, which if believed is his best ever performance, and makes him currently the best Chaser either side of the Irish Sea. It wasn't a 173 performance and I just can't have it that it was.

Surely you should rate the race on what happened, rather than add a big dose of whatever you randomly decide to add to the rating. The fact that he beat inferior horses in a race with an uneven pace doesn't make him a better horse than anything he's done before, and likely he didn't have to run up to his previous form to do it.

      • Ratings are always contentious whatever method/model gets applied, ultimately it's an opinion by someone else and we all have the right to form our own opinion based on what we see...

I thought the main argument with regards the sectionals was made by the timeform guy.
Timeform still have him below Shishkin.

Did the RPR's boys refer to the same reasoning ? or is it just one of their ratings ? that you're just not on board with ?

          • Capodanno had absolutely no right to win that after that savage mistake 2 out. Disappointing from GDM.

            • Dissapointing from GDM jumping did get much better after looking terrible at the start

Perhaps not surprisingly looked one paced over 2m3f

Capadanno I believe had been mentioned on here as a NHC horse id say that's firmly off the table as he looked to have a decent bit of speed and wouldve won by miles if not for the terrible mistake

As a GDM backer just have to hope he improves for the run as much as he did last season

              • crap that from GDM, no chance here or the turners imo

Disappointing like last year though....could just be one that needs the run.

                    Tad hasty I’d say.

Jumping improved and I’d say most on this forum think he needs further than that. He may also be one that takes longer to get fit and needs the run like many of WPMs have.

Nothing like OTT there i'd say. He was beaten 8ls by Henry's last year.....didn't have turnaround after that did he?

He did get well beaten by a low 130s horse with a 108 rated horse in third last season so there is hope he does just need the run

Keep an eye out for a handicap bid along the line...

                              Exactamundo.

Not saying he wins this. But people on here so quick to jump on things.

Brandy Love wins, they ejaculate quicker than the real McCoy....

GDM loses and he's got no chance.

                                Nail on the head.

We know the trip was inadequate and we know he wants softer ground.

GDM needed his first run last year, and looked to need it this year.

I thought his jumping on the whole was good which was an important takeaway, and he warmed to his task well.

I'm all for knocking ability when horses step into the deep end but seeing him labelled crap after a debut taking into account the above circumstances is nonsense.
