  • I think Van jumped excellently there, clever when needed to be too. Looks all over a NHC horse to me though and would rightly go off a short fav for it too. Can’t help but feel he would struggle to go the gallop against better horses over 3m at Chelts.

    • Yeah, looks like a NHC horse

But surely, if you’ve won last years Albert Bartlett, Grade one (comfortably), you should be aiming at the RSA (or whatever it’s called)?

I don’t doubt that he’s well-suited to the 3m 6f race, but I think that they should be aiming higher.

        • I was impressed today. Jumped well and galloped, and the extra few furlongs and the hill will help. He'll be hard to beat in the old RSA in my opinion.

Always assumed he'd be NH Chase bound but will come here with a chance too I think...
In tomorrow’s Racing Post Cromwell is quoted, when asked which of the novice chases Vanillier will likely contest between this and the NHC, as saying “maybe the shorter Novice Chase would be the preference”.

I don't think that was ever in doubt. He's too good for the NHC based on his demolition job in the Albert. The RSA trip around Cheltenham given going on the soft side of good will be right up his street.

                  • No doubt the case has already been made somewhere on this thread but backed Beacon Edge for this today as he’s very strong in the market for his race today and I fully expect him to win and shorten.

Thought it was a more than satisfactory debut finishing second in a hot Beginners Chase over an inadequate trip beating Vanillier who has already gone in since. 20/1 with cash out just big enough to tempt me in.

He's one I like alot but he isn't short of speed and could easily be a Marsh horse, unless there are comments confirming this race ?
He didn't quite see out the Stayers trip last year but being on the New Course that would test a horse more than a similar trip on the Old Couse so he may well prove to be a solid choice for this race.
Personally when Galopin des Champs appears I think everything changes...

No quotes that I’m aware of but looking at the way he was campaigned last season and the fact he is already stepping up to 2m 6f today would make me think this race would be the plan if good enough. Already have a couple of Willie’s covered at nice prices so willing to have a cover bet on this one with cash out as he looks to have an interesting profile for the race.

Didn't really see out the trip in the stayers though did he? But travelled into the race very well, he might go here but imo he'd be better suited to the marsh.

                            • may be worth taking the win today and NHC for TBO if you're quick.

He finished close enough to the winner for me to not to be concerned about the trip in novice company. Shame he was a NR today as really fancied him to win against TBO and shorten a bit. Will re-evaluate based on his next entry
