Just decided to back him after this news with 365 antepost. Immediately greyed out - no idea why?!

Even though he was the chosen one to take on Bob Olinger over the shorter trip, has no more experience than Galopin Des Champs at the longer trip, and is coming off a bungling performance last time. I suspect he is coming here because that's what JP wants, and it is rather handy in that respect that Galopin Des Champs is out the way.

      • Although I respect one side of what Willie says:

'Put horses in the race they are best suited for' (and he seems to think that 2m4f is for GDC)

I can't reconcile that thought with him thinking they went too fast for GDC last time and him thinking GDC is a future Gold Cup horse. Time and time again, those future Gold cup horses go to the RSA, whereas the dubious Cheltenham stayers go to the JLT (including Kemboy, Melon, Asterion Forlonge (who was probably moved to avoid Monkfish) and Tornado Flyer). I'd be worried for GDCs gold cup chances next year if he goes JLT over here but I'm not naive and as an RSA backer am seriously worried about him going JLT instead of here...

          I think the same @odin.

He really ought to be going over the Brown trip, 2F less than the Gold Cup this year, if that’s what he’s supposed to be staying next year.

The 2M3.5F trip of the Turners is 7F less than the Gold Cup.

That race will tell them virtually nothing about his Gold Cup prospects, in comparison to the Brown Advisory.

Opportunity missed, or taken, we wait to find out.

I think if he goes to the Turners, then I would be looking to take him on, in next seasons Gold Cup.

My thoughts exactly, you would think they would want to get a better handle on his gold cup credentials in the longer race.

Yes, the signal being given out is that he thinks he will struggle to stay three miles, even on a less stiff track. Otherwise why would you take on what looks a much tougher challenge, something completely out of character. If a horse is capable of winning two races, you surely go for the easier one. So Mullins doesn't think he can beat another questionable stayer in Bravemansgame, a horse who might also be unsuited by track. Galopin Des Champs was far less exuberant, and ran much more like a stayer at the Dublin Festival. There were no signs of him stopping at the end of the race. He was pulling away from the second. Does Mullins really want to see him being fired at every fence? If that was his preference why did he take a lead last time? There seem to be a lot of holes in the thought process even before you take into account the length of time it took for him to confirm the target.

              • Yep - agree with all three of you.

I think he'd win the Turner's as I think his jumping would put Bob in trouble, but if he's a future Gold cup horse it's so much better to lose in the RSA as a novice and maybe a 3m chase in early open age before returning back to the Ryanair (a la allaho) than stepping up after. Time will tell but glad I'm not the only one struggling to reconcile certain aspects of the talk

                • Looks like the weather in the week before the Festival and the festival week itself is going to be dry. This will have a major impact on where GDC ends up. If the forecast is correct, then I don't see GDC going Turners. He'll take the longer race option instead.

Closer to a Champion Chase route (3.5F difference) than a Gold Cup route (7F difference).

Absolute nonsense to think he’s a future Gold Cup horses, he’s won a Grade 1 over 3M by 12 lengths, and run him at the meeting over 7F less.

To me, it suggests their not that certain he’s a Gold Cup horse.

Their history of taking them from the Turners to the Gold Cup, is littered with non-stayers over 3M2.5F

They are saying he is next he next year's Gold Cup horse, but bottling even running at Cheltenham. Crazy stuff.

I reckon they’ll change their mind on that.

I tweeted Lucinda Russell about the Brown.Adv being the best prep this year for the Gold Cup next year, and she ‘liked’ my tweet

                        Not 100% certain, of course.

Well done, but shouldn't she have been able to work that out for herself?

Nothing has filtered through to the markets yet, but fingers crossed.

Race will be weakened hugely if GDC defects to Turners and will be there for the taking…
