  • I'd be disappointed if GDS can't beat Stattler at the weekend, even if the trip isn't ideal.

Why all the dislike for Stattler ? His hurdle formlines tie in with most of the best staying Novice Chasers of which the majority on here have talked up since March. What's he done wrong ?

        He's done nothing wrong.

I just think GDS could be pretty handy and I'd expect Stattler to need much further to be seen at his best. If GDS can't beat Stattler over 2m4 then he isn't going to be up to the standard to win this race.

One of Stattlers best performances last season was over 2 1/2 miles where he gave Glens of Antrim 7lbs and a sound beating at Leopardstown at Xmas. He's definitely not a slowboat.

Possibly the fact that whilst he has run admirably in some races he's actually only won one maiden Hurdle and the form of that is hardly inspiring.

It may be that fences will be the making of him, but he's not one I'm overly excited about until he shows the level of form required for the festival.

I could see him picking off a listed or Grade 3 event but think he is below G1 level, so that is my issue with him.

You say it like Glens Of Antrim is Annie Power, but she's literally done zilch for the form including being beat at odds on the next time out.

Meh, he's been beaten by them comfortably? His Leopardstown front-running effort was promising at the time i thought- but don't think he went on from that. Could improve over fences but he'd def need to.

Glens of antrim is pretty useless though in the grand scheme of things

Agreed, she will make a nice chaser though, was hoping Willie might fast track her this season, wrong thread for that chat however!

I wouldn’t be terribly sweet on Stattler for any target fwiw.

                    • Completely agree, i reckon most 3 milers would have given Glens Of Antrim a beating over any distance.

Its just another part of the puzzle for WPM, he has so many horses that look like being up to challenging. Could it be he also fires 2 at the NHC this year?

                      • What's the consensus on GDS, here if good enough or else the 4 miler?

Hopefully here. I wouldn't want a 6 year old with so little experience in the NH Chase.

True. Fwiw Stattler opened at evens tomorrow, GDS at 2s

PP much closer at 11/8 and 13/8 so B365 taking GDS on. 2/1 seems a decent price.

I think they will try to make him into an RSA horse initially and may consider the NHC if his form / profile doesn't fit. I backed GDSc really early on for the NHC but given the ammo Gordon has for that race already, I doubt he will end up there. Notwithstanding, Gigginstown have yet to agree to Run Wild Fred's participation in the NHC so I suppose it's not so cut and dry as I have it in my mind. Interesting to see how things pan out.
