Firstly a big part of the decision was based around the terrific work of Saxon Warrior who noted the Punchestown Festival bumper as a key race, that Willie uses for horses that eventually end up here or at least run at this sort of trip at the following Cheltenham Festival.
Willies runners in 'that' Punchestown bumper have been as follows:
2020 - No race due to Covid19
2019 - The Big Getaway (2nd) - Ran in the Ballymore and finished 3rd to Envoi Allen
2018 - Voix Des Tiep (2nd) - No run at the festival the following season
2018 - Getareason (3rd) - Ran in the Martin Pipe, albeit a below par performance, but mostly campaigned around the intermediate trip
2018 - Rio Vivas (4th) - No run at the festival the following season
2017 - Next Destination (2nd) - Ran in the Ballymore and finished 3rd to Samcro
2016 - Invitation Only (1st) - No run at the festival the following season, but mostly campaigned around the intermediate trip
2016 - Turcagua (4th) - PU in the Albert Bartlett the following season, was campaigned in and around the intermediate trip throughout the season
2015 - Yorkhill (1st) - Won the Ballymore at the festival the following season
2015 - Up For Review - PU in the Albert Bartlett at the festival the following season
On top of the above information, for me I also check out the comparative RPR's and the only horse that matches Dysart Dynamo as also noted by Saxon Warrior, is the 2015 bumper and 2016 Ballymore winner, Yorkhill, which is a big positive for me, not least because of racecourse experience (inc. p2p's) Dysart Dynamo still has a fair bit to catch up on having only ever had two runs, so improvement is most definitely expected, yet achieved a top RPR of 135 already.
I've also watched the replay back of the Punchestown bumper and I completely forgot how keen Dysart Dynamo was pretty much for the whole race and still finished it off the way he did. The way he picked up finished the race he did remind me of a couple of previous Ballymore winners in Faugheen & Bob Olinger, now obviously it would be a fair statement to say he's going to be as good as Bob Olinger let alone Faugheen, but I like the way he wanted to quicken and go clear, which he did despite his earlier exertions.
Now the potential issues with the bet, and first up will be other horses that Willie Mullins has at his disposal, in the shape of Kilcruit, Sir Gerhard and even Classic Getaway. My issue with the first two are their ages, 7 year olds have a worse record in this race than they do in the Supreme, however if there is one trainer who cares little for stats and trends it is Willie Mullins, so the pair have to be taken seriously, however I'm more inclined, at this stage of the season to ignore his thoughts on his runners and rather take note of the work that the likes of Saxon do on here, so for now I won't be playing the pair at their current odds, as I can see this changing throughout the season anyway. Classic Getaway is an option, and being from a p2p background would be seen as a more likely player in the race, however he is by Getaway, a sire who has been noted on the forum in the past as not one to get too carried away about with regards to festival form, though it is likely only a matter of time before one of his progeny give him a winner at the festival, for now I'm happy to pass him by, although I had played some free bets on him very early on in the year. At this stage these are the only ones that I feel may be in and around the pecking order with regards to this race for Willie.
His owner, now I'm not sure what Ms Eleanor Manning's plans are for her horses, she's had a few with Willie in the past, but I suspect she leaves it up to him to make the calls, though I don't recall her having many runners at the festival previously (Dysart Diamond ran in the Coral Cup last season but well down the field), which means Dysart Dynamo could be held back for Punchestown maybe? This just a musing, and this may not be the case at all.
On his breeding he ticks enough boxes. Being by Westerner I have no concerns on the staying front nor on producing festival winners, as he has done so in the past with the likes of Cole Harden (Stayers), Empire Of Dirt (Plate) and the Arkle winner we are not allowed to mention, so a variety of distances as well, which is a positive. His dam was a bumper winner over 2m 2f and a winner over hurdles over 2m 3f.
I did ponder the Supreme Novice Hurdle for Dysart Dynamo but it just doesn't fit in with the Punchestown bumper that he run in, and I feel Willie has a fair bit more to target the Supreme with as well.

Its been worrying me a little about Journey With Me coming here as I only have him backed in the Bartlett as a single and quite a few multiples, so thought I would do a bit of Saxon Warrior style digging into Henrys past with regards to Ballymore and Albert Bartlett horses and where they start off to see if this entry at the weekend is a good/bad indication for either race.
2021
Ballymore: Bob Olinger - Started over 2mile at Gowran Park before being stepped up to 2m4f.
Albert Bartlett: No Runner
2020
Ballymore: No Runner
Albert Bartlett: Cobblers Way - Started over 2m4f, stepped up to 2m6f start of Feb (Leopardstown) before coming here.
2019
Ballymore: Notebook - Started at 2mile, moved upto 2m3f then back to 2m before going back up in distance.
Albert Bartlett: Minella Indo - Started over 2m4f, stepped up to 3mile start of Feb (Clonmel).
2018
Ballymore: Mind's Eye - Started over 2mile, ran 2 further times over 2m and two at 2m4f before coming here.
Albert Bartlett: Chris's Dream - Started over 2m3f stepped up to 3mile start of Feb (Clonmel).
2017
Ballymore: No Runner
Albert Bartlett: Monalee - Started over 2m6f stepped up to 3mile start of Feb (Clonmel).
So from the past we can see all 3 of his Ballymore runners have started over 2 mile and all 4 of his Bartlett runners have started over at least 2 mile 3 furlong. All of his Bartlett runners have also run over further in February (3 in the same race at Clonmel, 1 at Leopardstown) so there looks to be a pattern to how he campaigns these sorts.
This has made me a little more confident that Journey With Me goes to the Bartlett (if proves good enough) so I am going to hold off from backing in the Ballymore.Last edited by Many Clouds; 10 November 2021, 12:19 PM.

Though if I am totally honest I was probably put onto the stat by someone putting up Bob Olinger last year!!

Any interest in blazing Khal for this race? Looked impressive at the track yesterday, best priced 25/1 I think.
Interesting reading the comments regarding Dysart Dynamo, I've backed it for the supreme but maybe the faster horses will end up here, 16/1 the same price I took for the supreme available so no loss to me but Willie Mullins bingo can be costly

…..trainer mentioned this & Bartlett for BK, so you’d have to think he’ll be back for one of those if fit and well.

These ‘Ballymore trial’ or whatever you want to call them races have produced a few AB winners over the years too, since 2010 there’s been Berties Dream & Uknowhatimeanharry both ran in yesterday’s race the season they won the AB, and Bobs Worth & At Fishers Cross both ran in the one on trials day.Last edited by ToniC; 13 November 2021, 03:14 PM.
