Yep, this has to be the tactic for Rachel.
Looks unlikely based on what we've seen that his cruising speed is fast enough, but if it is, then this is the best chance, and funnily enough may actually set up for something else with more stamina that's held up. Not sure there is one though.
I think Mullins may want Sir G to dictate, but not be too arsed, but I think Rachel will move to the front early enough.
Might be a good race if she sets the right pace and the horse is good enough.

I mean if they cruise round before quickening for the finish. Make it a 2m5 supreme novices is the way you get sir Gerhard beat imo

      • The biggest issue I see with the JWM plan is how green he's looked in front so far. He's my number one dart in this race now (which is not something I expected to be saying as recently as two weeks ago!) so I hope he can burn SG from the front, but I have my doubts based on how I've seen him run so far.

He'll be fine Odin. He's done nothing wrong. I actually think this has been the plan all along. Taking the Bob Ollinger route was a big clue. I think he may surprise a few just how good he is. I'm expecting a huge run from him and for him to win.

We've been in very different positions with him and his targets all year, but it's good to see we are now united in our hope for him winning the same race. Fingers crossed as Wednesday is the only day I'm going to be there so would be lovely to see the boy win!

I can see this race being run to suit Whatdeawant at a price. He was smashed in the betting in the lawlors vs Ginto before being given a poor ride by the owners jockey (Mullins was not happy afterwards by all accounts) - think he’s better than shown so far and could be one with stamina to arrive on the scene late

                • The Bartlett dream over for those who backed JWM for that. Declared here.

                    • I Am Maximus declared here with Nico jocked. Think they've thrown away a huge opportunity in the Coral cup off 134 if they were to get in

He's got a very decent chance in this race based on the form with Hillcrest.

Would he have got in? Good Risk At All first reserve at 137. I Am is 134, no?

Yep wouldn’t have got in by the looks of things - assume that played a part in the decision!

                              • I know Sir Gerhard is supposed to be a really good horse with lots of good wins under his belt but given he hasn't run over this kind of distance before his short price puts me off. The next 3 in the betting appeal more: I Am Maximus, Journey With Me and Stage Star. Unless the going gets softer I prefer Stage Star and I Am Maximus. In the fullness of time that 2nd behind Hillcrest might look pretty good form - currently ok to back e/w. (SP > 5/1)

edit: Soft ground favours Journey With Me!
