  • Fury road is a hard one to assess re target. Has some serious Cheltenham form from two years ago but seemed to lose his way last season. Anyone any thoughts?

Bit harsh FF and Ray - take a look at a replay of the AB and you'll see Fakiera cruising as they came to the second last - then he went out like a light, which was at odds with his previous races.

It certainly wasn't because he lacked an ability to go the pace.

Don’t know what happened last season, nothing was mentioned as far as I’ve read relating to the lack of form being due to injury or any other cause. IMO a second season over hurdles with him was a mistake anyway and I’ll be keen to see how he gets on tomorrow. 33s for the RSA is tempting me but think I’ll hold off and see how he performs first

Do people think that's good or bad in respect to this race?

I looked at Gordon's previous winners of the race and he has used it 2 from 3 times as a springboard for the National. I'll have a proper look at all of his runners after. I don't think it's something to take much from at first glance. The step up in trip could be taken as a positive but I think we all expected that regardless anyway.

He used it for one of his runners in the last 10 years, winner Ravenhill .

                • Just going through and Ravenhill fell in this then win the NHC the same season.

He was originally planned for the Kim Muir though and stepped in as reserve when Champagne Classic (I think?) was pulled late on, so it might not be an indicator of a plan for the NH Chase?
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

                    • Definite Plan also entered up for Gordon in the Troytown, but is also entered in the amateur riders handicap race at Cheltenham this coming weekend, so will be interesting to see which one, if either, he is declared for. Kim Muir or this race could easily be on the radar for him.

Yep correct, only swapped like the Wednesday before.

Kind of the same thing though really, the lower mark just gave them the option.
If RWF ends up lower than 145, It'd be a close call and would depend on other horses he has and jockeys, ground and weather etc
I'd rather he win the troytown or go very close for the sake of NH chase bets.

                              • I agree it's no indicator though.
We can get too carried away with the race mapping, for obvious reasons (SW's very useful work)

You should always focus on the many paths you can take on not fixate on one, as if the one path gets blocked you may give up or get stressed about it.

Bit of stoicism for you there.
