Im similar to you at this stage in trying to almost cover too many of Gordon’s, with RWF and TBO already backed.

The thing with TBO is he can easily have another 3 runs then run in the NHC, although it’s not Gordon’s recent m.o for the race, go back before his recent wins and that’s where the handicap hurdlers had 3/4 chase runs before coming here. Not to the same success of course.

RWF I agree is a little disappointing not to see him entered this weekend, is there anything at the November meeting he could aim him at? I’d much rather he got some course experience if he was the intended NHC runner. If he doesn’t come here he’s in limbo really, too high for the Irish National and couldn’t win it off a lower mark, too high for the Kim Muir and capper will have his mark on the radar and almost certainly not good enough for the grand national.
IMO I don't think we will see a lot of RWF before he goes for the NHC - Grand National double. I think that he will have one or maybe two prep races before Cheltenham and go for the NHC. After all he has plenty of jumping experience (admittedly he's not the greatest jumper) and they will want to preserve his handicap for Aintree. I think Saxon has covered it in his brilliant posts that if he goes and wins the NHC his handicap mark for Aintree remains. To make the double more tempting, there is nearly 4 weeks between the two races. I might be wrong but that would certainly get Gordon back in the headlines, albeit this time for the right reasons.

I think the GDC comment was tongue in cheek cause he's known for trying to get Willies good ones to go here. Can understand why PM winds people up publicly because he's so non comital, but privately his views are generally mustard. I've asked (through a mutual friend) re pecking order of Willies in races with lots of runners multiple times and I can't remember him being wrong once (was seldom the shortest price either).

      • Was reading through some old stable tours and came across this quote from Gordon when talking about galvins NHC plan:

Second-season chasers have a good record in the National Hunt Chase in recent years, just look at the likes of Ravenhill and Cause Of Causes. Experience is worth a stone around there. Jamie Codd all being well will ride him and the race looks tailor-made for him. He’s rated in the 150s and might scare a few away too.

I know he’s namedropped TBO for the NHC, but given the weight he seemingly puts on jumping experience I’d be very surprised if he was the only one in Gordy’s mind for the race

I think the Cheltenham experience angle is huge though, his profile is exactly right for the race IMO but if he doesn’t get to cheltenham prior Xmas it will be a glaring hole in it. Please run him Gordon

I agree. Course experience is invaluable.

                    • If they've taught sams profile how to jump he will take all the beating

Good to see Gordon getting experience into TBO though

I really like Sams Profile. Not sure what the end game for him is though?

Had backed him for the RSA last season, but obviously never made it.

I backed him for the Stayers last year before he won on his return to hurdles. He could go NHC as he is still a maiden over fences. I read that (unbeknown to the stable) he was running with broken ribs, and internal bruising / bleeding when running a good third to Monkfish and Ontheropes so to me that form looks very good.

I'm glad Gordon is opting for a fairly tricky task here. I'd much rather know where I stand with TBO before November, than watch a facile win somewhere vs nothing and be left scratching my head.

                            • Doubtful, but Definite Plan is qualified for this, has ran through the summer and will be 10 next year. Rings one or 2 bells.
Hopefully he's only fourth or fifth reserve though.
Won't be backing him just yet, even though this race is fast becoming a habit for me.
