been done before. Plenty, in either x country, gold cup have ran well or won the UK National which is usually sooner than the Irish one.

He's actually more likely for the Grand National anyway.

surely wouldn't need any more weight than a rating of 141 to get in the Irish National , will be nearly 150 after today , if the Nash was the target a running on 4th might have been more ideal today , winning today says to me NH chase not handicaps ,

Before Ontheropes came second to Monkfish last season Mullins mentioned the following

Ontheropes (David) has chasing experience but will be better over further. He could develop into a 4 mile chase horse.
Enhanced his credentials massively after today. Also qualified.
Hopefully the same thought is still in his mind for this season. No doubt they’ll try their hand at some other big handicaps this season but the race should be on the agenda or at least under consideration regardless. Patrick I’m sure will make sure of that.

Having tried two classy sorts in Ballyward and Carefully Selected in recent years. (Like Back in Focus) With no luck at all. It’s no surprise if they do alter their approach and go for experience (like Rathvinden)

Reckon he'll go to the 3m at xmas Castlebawn West won last year.

Worth noting he's probably had an issue or two as he's relatively lightly raced, so i doubt they'd have been thinking of planning to keep hold of his mark for a National this far out. Nice pot today, possibly get another one, as i don't think he was near finished there at all. Then onto >March for a festival run for the owners....then if alls well a Grand National spin. Easy.

Gordon Elliott advertising a potential runner in the NH Chase

FOR SALE - 50% remaining in SMOKING GUN. 2013 gelding by Gold Well. Recently bought at Doncaster sales & looks a fun syndicate horse for the winter months. To be aimed at the good staying handicap chases, XC chases & potentially a horse for the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival.

He's not a novice though, so suspect it will be KM/XC.

                  Ontheropes vs Run Wild Fred.

What wins if it's a head and not heart decision?
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

Not even a competition for me. Ontheropes is the better horse. Whether or not he'd be laid out for this in the same manner Gordie can do it i'm not sure.

At least we know his KM horse now!

OTR for me. RWF will always find one too good.

I may have to add OTR. That was a serious performance after such a long break and he did it effortlessly.

I’m in a similar boat Charlie. I may wait until the stable tours come out to see what targets are mentioned but you couldn’t help but be impressed by yesterday’s win.

He's 12/1 any race with WH. I took that for now given I'd missed the bigger prices and whilst I'm still unsure he's going to NH chase. I'd definitely top up with cashout if a confirmed target was known, won very well yesterday
