Front 3 in the market are an 8yo, a 137 rated hurdler and a horse who couldn’t clear 8 flights of hurdles in his Supreme.
It really isn’t a vintage year and last years juveniles were a decent bunch so it wouldn’t be a shock to me if the likes of Zanihiyr went close in the Champion Hurdle and one of the 5yo horses won this…
if the current top 7 in the betting all ran the only one I wouldn’t fancy to finish infront of him is the mare of Henry’s to be honest. Fair enough I get the angle is that people think the potential is there but we’re yet to see anything like the level of performance required to win an Arkle from him on a racetrack. Last years juveniles probably were above average, but it’s not like he was the pick of the bunch last year though.

obviously when it comes down to it everything is a price thing, no matter how much you fancy a horse to actually win there’s a point you’d back it, but I just think 7/1 is really short that’s all

For me, had he stood up on his last run he would have given evidence of his ability but this isn't Goodwood or York, the obstacles are there for everyone to negotiate.
From memory HEC only joined Mullins a few weeks before last years Triumph, unusual for Mullins that he ran him so quickly but I think that was because of the high regard they had for him and that he was race fit/ready.
I wouldn't normally be banging the drum for a 5yo novice who has only jumped a dozen fences but as I said it doesn't strike me as a vintage year so I'm taking the 'potential' angle ahead of 'what we've seen' because 'what we've seen' doesn't suggest there's a superstar in here...

      • Can see the angle with haut en coulers but don't see any value in the price

Take a chance on him at 12s-14s yes but not at 7/1 for me

I had this debate with myself and reached the same conclusion, but because I don't rate Edwardstone and have BL onside, I'm willing to take a skinnier price on HEC on the basis that if he goes as inexperienced as he is, then there must be a bloody good reason and he'll be shorter than 7's on the day.

That’s exactly where I am, missed the prices, probably like most in this race because WPM’s first and then second dart are both not running.

By the third dart it’s become a bit messy.

Can’t argue with that to be honest, and I’m probably getting him wrong because I’d say I’m firmly in the minority not being excited about him

                • How do we see the jockey bookings shaking out in this race for Mullins?
                  Blue Lord - Townend
                  Saint Sam - Danny M
                  Haut En Coleurs - Cooper
                  Interested to know opinons.

                  • As things get so near it feels like the more knowledge you get, the more muddied the waters are for making a selection! HEC is my main selection in this and I’ll read one post favouring him & completely agree, then one critiquing his chances & agree with that angle too!

Overall though with HEC I get the feeling he will be well backed on the day so happy to take a price now and just retains some of that ‘could be anything’ about himself. I also think a test of stamina would help, and that a softer surface would not be a negative.

Don't see why not if he's fit, he rode him in last years Supreme despite never having ridden him in a race before.

Only because Townend was on Appreciate it though wasn't it? I'd have thought Paul would definitely get the pick of Willie's and if that turned out to be one for Munir and Souede then so be it :/

Be disappointing if he got the leg up instead of Paul like

                            • Jacob didn't ride concertista last year did he? Probably other examples but don't think he gets pick of there's for Mullins necessarily
