      • With some of you discussing Saint Sam's run today, I'm interested to see the success rate of juveniles sent chasing the following season, I thought Saint Sam did everything well enough today but I'd say he still has to keep showing something before being talked up as an alternative to Ferny and Blue Lord.

Last one was Voy por Ustedes in 2006 when they were still getting 5lb allowance

Fantastic, I really appreciate that thanks - I'm not one to base bets on statistics/records solely but I'd say this stat is a pretty damning one. I wish anyone who decides to back Saint Sam in a novice chase but as far as the Arkle goes I'm struggling to see past Ferny Hollow and Blue Lord (albeit less so).

Not sure about that. Just needs a run and jumping experience anywhere they can ATM. The Leicester race falls in nicely and gives him a chance to get another run in or possibly 2 . They could go anywhere with him. I'd say Arkle still fav though if he takes to fences well.

How can you credibly dress up a 2m6f debut as a positive endorsement for him going here?!?!

Would be very odd, as would Hendo running him more than once more pre-fez. He's by Flemensfirth anyway which historically screams stayer, not speedster (which is what his run at Aintree looked like to me, although need to rewatch).

DJ might make the case for you tomorrow, who knows

Just had a look at a Henderson stable tour and he says it was a mistake running over 2m at Aintree, should've gone over 2m 4f and it's definitely short of his best trip... Appreciate that's Aintree but it still gives the impression he's planning his future to be over further than 2m. Tempted to back him for the Marsh to be honest.

Admittedly he says later about him staying over hurdles so you know... Take it for what it is

I would probably guess at the Turners/Marsh. 25/1 available with Paddy/Bet365, just remembering the comments about Aintree 2m being too short for him when hurdling, probably not a bad one to get in the book at the price.

                      • Don't hold out much hope for him in any of the Novice chases against the current favs but you never know. I put a line through him long ago.

                        • I see willie has entered all his novices in the open company grade 1 at the DRF

If chacun and energumene don't run might be how they end up splitting ferny and blue lord

Looks like he's just keeping options open. For a potentially very weak grade 1.
Same reason Shishkin should have entered.
The race is weak as fuck and it don't look encouraging for Chacun.

                            • Just trying to tidy up my bets and i have a few decent multiples with Ferny Hollow in the Marsh where the other selections have shortened. Wondering whether to cash or not.

What scenarios do we see him not coming here? Im assuming a defeat to Blue Lord in the Irish Arkle (should they meet) is perhaps the most likely, or an injury to Bob.

I cant really see any other way.. but reluctant to press the button at the minute given they are quite nice cover bets should the worst case (the above) happen

                                Totally agree at prices !

He is one of my main plays on day 1......should be much closer to Ferny in betting

Was running a pretty good second in Supreme to an immense Appr It on day, so we know handles course, jumps great and close enough to Ferny on ratings

I still think Ferny most likely winner and thankfully had him in book ages ago, but Blue Lord won't be far away....and any slight error by Ferny, he could well win

One point tho for any with books......Edwardstone not one to write-of easily, despite hurdles form.......went To Alan King's few weeks ago.....and saw him up close.....very impressive looking horse.....looks real chaser with good temperament
