  • Hopefully ferny and appreciate it race against each other at some point

Winner goes to the arkle, loser goes up in trip

Ferny hit the line hard today after coeur sublime loomed up on the bridle

He jumped very well on the main, wasnt the best at organising himself when he didnt meet it on a stride but that'll Hopefully come with time

    • Perhaps Appreciate It & Ferny Hollow will both compete in the Arkle?

If the distance of 2 miles is perfect for both horses, why wouldn’t they both run here?

Nicholson had the first 5 home in the Gold Cup many years ago - why can’t Willie have the first five home in an Arkle if all of his best novice chasers are all brilliant over 2 miles?

            • On Appreciate it from Irishracing

"There is a two mile chase next week for Appreciate It at Fairyhouse but because it is on the inside track and because it has been so dry, we have to decide do we wait and go to Christmas or not. There is a beginners chase in Leopardstown over Christmas and you wouldn't mind winning either but we'll see."

That seems to have been written last week. No more racing at Fairyhouse now until the New Year. I'd say certain for Leopardstown for AI, and the ground has changed in Ireland, and more rain due this week. At this point, you would hope we can keep it safe ground over Christmas for the jumpers.

There’s a meeting in fairyhouse on the 11th, if the rain that’s forecast comes you’d hope the ground would have some ease to it

What would you do then Mr Quevega with those 2 horses?

Do you feel there’s any evidence of the last 12 months of Appreciate’s brilliant form over 2 miles and Ferny Hollow’s last 6 runs dating back over 24 months that might suggest they should be split over different distances, just because they’re both trained by the same trainer??

I would suggest that currently, on evidence of that period, there’s no reason why Willie would want to split them.

                          It’s too early to say.
but ferny has booked a ticket for a graded 2 miler today and if he wins that then it’d be difficult to shift him up.

                          • What did people make of Ferny Hollows debut today?

He’s had a long time off the track, was jumping obstacles under rules for only the second time, so those 2 things you maybe have to give him the benefit of the doubt. I thought he looked a little awkward at 2/3 fences and was also very low at the second last going through the top of it. I know he’s a novice so a couple of errors is common but I wouldn’t be overly excited by that. The jump at the last won him the race, annoyed 3 fences were omitted as I’d like to have seen how he did the whole way round. So he’s jumped another 8 obstacles which hasn’t told us too much, he still has an engine which was good to see.

                            • I'm not 100% sold either. Like with all these novices, hurdling or chasing, I want to see them perform in graded company before I take a view. It's really having more confidence at a lower price than just a stab in the dark based on reputation. I appreciate many here will want to bag that early value price not that FH was ever much value.

                              • Didn't look your typical Arkle type to me . All about Appreciate It now. If he comes out and wins ultra Impressive then I could see Ferney stepping up out of the way.
